I’ve used about every single mixing plugin on this site and over the years I’m come the conclusion these are possibly the only mixing plugin I need. After using them I’m just blown away by them. I see why old heads love the SSL 4000 E & G analog. Damn it now I have to save up to get one. What do you guys think?

 

It's a very flexible channel strip. Analog SSL consoles are workflow monsters and well made.

The digital versions technically are quite redundant.

UAD one is amazing.. i tried the demo before.. i want to buy one

 

I have the UAD,plugin alliance and the SSL native and by far the native is the best one plugin alliance is second and UAD third

 

The real thing - they are great but most folks dont have 40+ grand (yes, that's 40+ thousand $$) sitting around to lay out for a huge piece of vintage gear. So unless you're independently wealthy, have rich backers waiting to finance you, have a rich uncle, or happen to find one along side the road somewhere, plus a well air conditioned room to put it in, it's gonna be a while "saving up" to buy one... The plugins are looking better now, yes?

do not understimate the old waves SSL emulations, even for the presets, some of them are originally deisgned by CLA and are a masterclass of mixing, worth studying all the presets for drums. I cloned a lot of those presets for the UAD and Acustica Audio plugins, many interesting ideas to start

 

If you have the cash, space to put it in, knowledge and skill to fix it when it breaks down plus the monthly maintenance or money to pay someone to do it and can afford the electricity to power it up...then go for it, either the G or E will do it.

Make sure you have some friends with hands come time to mix, this one has no computer section.

I have about 18k right now but hardly doubt that would put a dent in it

I’ve also seen online a couple of channel strips sold separately powered with there own power supply but it was SSL 9000 channel strip

I haven’t tried the Alex ssl 4k yet

Wow ok. You might be able to find something decent once you hit the ~$30K+ mark. Might not have automation either at that price, if you're looking to score that feature. If this is for a home studio you're definitely going to need a nice air conditioned room to place it into. Two main reasons I ended up ditching most of my analog gear was due to insufficient space and cooling.

 

I have like 10 different analog synths and some outboard gear but I been looking for a good ssl board even if its one channel strip lol

Someone built a power supply on this 4000 G channel strip which is so cool!!!

 

Big Fan of Solid State Logic I use the channel strips and console plugins more than any other board. Not to mention Alot of my Favorite Albums a SSL Console was used. Guitar is my Primary Instrument i use the SSL 2 MKII interface and i absolutely love it. That little 4K button Def adds a bit of flavor.
