    R.I.P. - Mick Abrahams - December 19, 2025 - British guitarist and bandleader

Michael Timothy "Mick" Abrahams (born April 7, 1943, in Luton, Bedfordshire, England; died December 19, 2025) was a British blues-rock guitarist and bandleader.

Michael "Mick" Abrahams began his musical career in 1964, after playing in several smaller bands, with Neil Christian's Crusaders, where he replaced Jimmy Page. He was an admirer of the music of Alexis Korner, one of the fathers of British blues. In 1965, he played with the Toggery Five, where Clive Bunker was on drums. In 1967, he met Ian Anderson and Glenn Cornick. This laid the foundation for Jethro Tull.

Abrahams played guitar on their debut album, This Was, released in 1968. Due to disagreements with Anderson about the band's musical direction, he left the band. After the recording sessions, Abrahams left Jethro Tull, where he was initially replaced for a few weeks by Tony Iommi and then permanently by Martin Barre.

Abrahams subsequently formed the band Blodwyn Pig, which released two albums, *Ahead Rings Out* (1969) and *Getting to This* (1970) – both of which reached the UK Top Ten – and performed at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1969. The group disbanded in 1970.

His next band was Wommett, which was short-lived, followed by the Mick Abrahams Band, which recorded two albums. From 1975 onwards, Abrahams released several solo albums, and from 1993, he also released a number of albums with a Blodwyn Pig reunion. He worked various jobs, including as a driver, lifeguard, and financial advisor.

In the late 1990s, he performed early Jethro Tull songs with the founding members of Jethro Tull – except for Ian Anderson – under the name "Time Was." This resulted in a live album. Abrahams also played on albums by Anderson and at other Jethro Tull reunions.

In 2009, Abrahams suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with Meniere's disease.
In 2015, he released another album featuring various guest musicians, including Martin Barre.
