hi ! i've seen a couple similar posts on here from beginners but wanted to throw my hat in the ring ...

i want to go into a career in the record industry (marketing) and i've always loved music production so i figure now is the best time to learn

i've played around on garageband/abelton/fl studio and i'm going to stick with garageband until i feel like i'm ready to move on. so far everything i've learned has been very basic and self taught however until i can transfer to a school that specializes in music do you guys have any resources for beginners? especially if they're digital workshops for theory + production (preferably free..)

    thank you !! ^_^

Syntorial is a great way to learn synth programming, imo. I can’t recommend it enough.

Ableton - Get started making sounds --> https://learningsynths.ableton.com/
Synth Secrets - From Sound On Sound --> www.soundonsound.com/series/synth-secrets-sound-sound

Surge Synth Team - Surge XT --> https://surge-synthesizer.github.io
    Manual: https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/manual-xt/
    Info: www.kvraudio.com/product/surge-xt-by-surge-synth-team
    Synthesis method: Subtractive hybrid.

Load the Surge XT and in the Patch Browser, in the drop-down menu, you'll find "Initialize Patch" under Function.
All presets will then be reset to zero for your own sound design.

Read a chapter, for example, about filters, then go to the Filters section in the Surge and try to understand what you've read. Move the knobs to understand how they work. Read the manual again. Read it every day and apply it immediately; that's the best way to learn.

With 30 minutes a day, you too will become a pro. After that, move on to the chapter on oscillators (the sound generators)...!

If Surge XT is not to your liking:

Matt Tytel - Vital --> https://vital.audio (Basic Free Version)

    - Vital is a spectral warping wavetable synthesizer.
