Raul Malo (The Mavericks) passed away on December 8, 2025

It hasn't even been six months since we presented the reissue of The Mavericks' successful album Trampoline. And now, the news has suddenly landed on our desks that the band's singer, guitarist, and bandleader, Raul Malo, passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of sixty. The cause of death is said to have been a long-standing battle with cancer.

Together with bassist Robert Reynolds, Malo founded the band The Mavericks in 1989. Following their self-titled debut (1990), their second album, "From Hell To Paradise," brought them a breakthrough and great success in the USA and Canada in 1992. The European music scene was also slowly beginning to take notice. The band first broke up in 2000. However, they reunited just three years later for an album before quickly going their separate ways again. A second reunion occurred at the end of 2011, followed by further albums, and the band remains active to this day.
