I downloaded Superior Drummer 3 and I'm curious about the install order, patching, etc.

    Here is what I have...

    -Toontrack.Superior.Drummer.3.v3.0.1.WiN (~38.1gb or so)
-Toontrack - Superior Drummer 3 Core Library Update v1.3.0 (4.63gb)
    -Toontrack - Superior Drummer v3.4.2 (1.07gb)

I'm assuming I want to install in that order? Or do I do the core library update last?

Any other tips? Thought I read something about using a 1 work folder path so I don't hit a character limit.

    Thanks!

You can install directly the v3.4.2 (The software doesn't come with any sound library)
If you don't have the Core Library you don't need to install the update v1.3.0.
You can Download the Core Library (and update it) or any SDX/EZX Sound library and add it after installation.

The v3.42 on ss is an UPDATE ONLY. You cannot install that alone and expect it to work. IF you have the legit SD3 v3.42 in hand, that is a FULL install (not an update), then you could install that alone and have it work - BUT don't expect to run any libraries from ss.

You should install the core lib and any/all updates to it. You'll be happier in the long run.

In terms of install order, program files (the original SD3) and program updates usually come before library updates. By installing the latest program update you should be OK, if not SD3 will clearly tell you what is missing and what to do.

    I agree with @saccamano.

Also. If you take a look at the file "InstallerConfig" (will open in any text editor/viewer), you will see everything from Part 1 of the Core Library needs to be installed. Further, you will see that Tools Mic Bleed, etc... are spread across Parts.

If you want trouble free operation without "missing" alerts, install the Full Core Library & update (you should also install the Core MIDI v1.0.0).

You have the correct order for installation.

I think I might even be more confused, but I'll figure it out. Thanks all!

I've just installed the latest version, then I installed an SDX and an EZX library. Everything's working perfectly. (Windows 11, Studio One 7)

I don't know where these guys are getting this information; have you tried doing it?

Also, you can read in the comments on the sister site other users confirming this:

"I've installed this 'update' release alone just for testing, and it seems to work fine, though I don't know why the NFO file says 'just apply to any v3.x.x'."

On my website, I have a step-by-step full installation guide if you still have doubts.

Does this look like as far as the content goes? I think I got it all installed right. Seems to work in standalone. I will have to try in Pro Tools later, but I'll have to use my blue cats patchwork as a wrapper.

Native AAX should load in Pro Tools without needing a wrapper.

Question. did you install the entire Core library or just a portion?

SD3 will show all of the factory presets, you will just be missing kit pieces, bleeds, etc... without the full install where needed. Operational otherwise.

I know this is the way you are "supposed to" do this. But for almost every instrument plugin I have with a giant content library, I have those libraries on external drives. I don't want them on my system disk any bigger than maybe 2gb or so, and I don't want to install them again if it can be avoided. Installing the actual plugin when the content is already correctly installed on the external seems way less error-prone to me.

Well, I'm legit Pro Tools, so likely not. I actually haven't opened PT since installing it, just fired up standalone to make sure all looked well.

As far as the core library, I think I got it all. It wasn't really an install... more of put it where you want then open SD3 an point to it in the options. It was like 38-39gb... something like that. Does it look like I got it all via the screenshot?

You only have a portion of the Core Library. The Full Basic library requires parts 1, 2 & 5.

To see the list of the OBW sound files & what they represent, on the first ISO (Part 1), open the folder named "SL-SuperiorDrummer3" & then open the "InstallerConfig" file in any text editor.

    Scroll down to"
    Option (
    Name "PARTIAL INSTALLATION"
    Header 1
    )

This is the start of the allowed install options & their descriptions. Parts 3 & 4 are the files required for Surround Sound processing inside of SD3.

    Hope this helps clarify things...

Part3 & 4 ISO's are the surround stuff. If you don't need or foresee the need to mix drums in surround sound (5.1) then you don't need the 3rd and 4th ISO's at all...
