    Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations on lightweight text editors that I can use without installing software. I mainly need something fast for jotting down notes, code snippets, or drafts on the go.

I’ve heard about notepad online tools that allow saving and accessing notes from any device. Has anyone tried them? How reliable are they in terms of autosave and formatting options?

Also, are there any that support basic syntax highlighting for coding?

Any personal experiences or tips would be really helpful.

Tool Autosave Reliability Formatting Options Syntax Highlighting Cross-Device Access Best For Limitations

    StackBlitz
(stackblitz.com) Excellent (real-time, GitHub integration) Markdown + HTML preview 100+ languages (JS, Python, etc.) Yes, via browser or shareable links Code snippets & quick prototypes More dev-focused; steeper for pure notes

CodePen (codepen.io) Strong (autosaves pens, cloud sync) HTML/CSS/JS live preview Full for web langs (add extensions for others) Yes, account-based sharing Web code drafts & experiments Limited to front-end; no offline mode

JSFiddle (jsfiddle.net) Good (session-based, optional save to account) Basic Markdown, live rendering JS, CSS, HTML; basic for others Yes, via URLs or embeds Fast code testing Less polished UI; no built-in notes export

Dillinger (dillinger.io) Very reliable (GitHub/Dropbox sync) Full Markdown WYSIWYG Basic for code blocks (via Markdown) Yes, cloud/export options Notes & Markdown drafts Syntax limited to fenced blocks; no advanced langs

StackEdit (stackedit.io) Excellent (Google Drive/OneDrive sync) Markdown with live preview Good for 50+ langs in code blocks Yes, multi-platform sync Portable notes with code Interface feels dated; no collaboration

    I use Google keep.
If you use Chrome, it's very convenient
