Falcon and UVI Workstation crash when they index the volume of the disk where my banks are stored. This means that some presets or banks don't load and both programs close. The volume is a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB connected to my PC via USB4 with a Thunderbolt 4 cable in a Ugreen 40GB enclosure. This provides the best transfer speeds: 3800 MB/s read and 3000 MB/s write. The problem affects older versions of Falcon and UVI Workstation, as well as the new ones from the sister site. I have tested various USB-C cables, including the one supplied with the Ugreen enclosure, but the problem remains the same. So it's not the cables. I have disabled search engine indexing on my external drive and also given it more rights, but to no avail. I don't understand. UVI suggests that some banks may be corrupted, but I ran this test and that's not the case. I have no problems with Kontakt, Addictive Drums, Triaz, etc.
    Mini PC IT 13 2025.
    Win 11 latest version.
    Best regards

I had the same problem and solved it by re-downloading the problematic library. If you can't clearly identify it, remove all but one, index, and then add them back one by one.

Keep in mind that AI can also generate incorrect answers; however, I hope you'll find some helpful solutions here. Good luck!
I'm sorry to hear about the frustrating crashes with Falcon and UVI Workstation—it's especially annoying when other libraries like Kontakt load fine, pointing to something specific in UVI's indexing/scanning process. Based on your setup (Mini PC IT 13 2025, latest Win 11, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB in a Ugreen 40Gbps enclosure via USB4/Thunderbolt 4 cable), I've dug into similar reports. This seems like a combo of known UVI software behaviors around external drive scanning and potential quirks with the 990 Pro in enclosures. I'll outline the likely causes and targeted fixes below, starting with the quickest wins.

    Quick Troubleshooting Steps
    1. Disable Indexing for the External Drive in UVI Apps UVI's browser (especially in recent versions like Falcon 3.1+ or Workstation 4+) relies on "indexed" paths for faster preset loading, but this can trigger crashes on external drives due to how it scans file structures. Even if presets load partially, a full index rebuild often fails on USB/Thunderbolt volumes.
      • Open Falcon or UVI Workstation > Preferences > File/Folders tab.
      • Select your external drive's soundbank path.
      • Uncheck the "Indexed" or "Automount" option (it might say "Enable indexing" in older versions).
      • Click Apply, then restart the app (or rescan in your DAW).
      • Why this helps: It forces manual browsing instead of automated scanning, bypassing the crash point. Users report this resolves external drive issues without losing access to banks.
      • Test: Load a preset from the drive manually. If it works, re-enable indexing on a small subfolder first to isolate problematic banks.
    2. Move Soundbanks to an Internal Drive (Temporary Test) Your enclosure delivers great speeds (3800/3000 MB/s), but UVI's scanner can choke on even high-speed externals if there's micro-latency during directory traversal—especially with large banks. Other apps like Kontakt handle this better because they don't build in-app indexes the same way.
      • Copy a single bank (e.g., 1-2 GB) to your internal NVMe/SSD.
      • Add the new path in Preferences > File/Folders, enable indexing if desired, and rescan.
      • Why this helps: Internal drives eliminate enclosure/cable variables. If it works, the issue is external-specific; you can then symlink the full external path or keep small banks internal. Reports show this fixes scanning crashes on USB4 setups.
      • Pro tip: Use UVI Portal to verify bank integrity again after moving (Tools > Integrity Check), even though you did this—sometimes paths get corrupted in transit.
    3. Update Firmware and Check Drive Health The 990 Pro has a history of instability in enclosures (e.g., random disconnects, I/O errors during sustained reads like scanning), especially pre-2023 firmware. Your speeds are solid, but indexing involves rapid small-file reads that can expose firmware bugs.
      • Download Samsung Magician (free from Samsung's site).
      • Connect the drive, run a full diagnostic scan (under Drive Health), and check for errors/bad sectors.
      • Update firmware if not on the latest (4B2QJXD7 as of late 2025—handles enclosure power/heat better).
      • Enable "Full Performance Mode" in Magician if it's off.
      • Why this helps: Fixed similar crashes in high-throughput enclosures; users saw BSODs or app drops during scans until firmware 4B2+. Also rules out hardware degradation (e.g., health dropping unexpectedly).
      • If Magician flags issues, RMA the drive—Samsung's warranty is solid for this.
Deeper Checks If the Above Don't Fix It
    • Permissions and Windows Indexing: You mentioned disabling Windows Search indexing and tweaking rights—good start. Double-check: Right-click the drive > Properties > Security > Edit > Ensure your user has Full Control. Also, run chkdsk X: /f /r (replace X: with drive letter) in an admin Command Prompt to fix any NTFS errors.
    • Cable/Enclosure Swap: Even with multiples tested, try a direct Thunderbolt dock (e.g., CalDigit TS4) if possible—Ugreen's are fast but can have signal noise under load.
    • UVI-Specific Updates: Ensure you're on Falcon 3.1.1+ or Workstation 4.0.1+ via UVI Portal (latest Tag Library too). Older versions crash more on externals. Reinstall if needed (uninstall via Portal, delete leftovers in %AppData%\UVI).
    • System Logs for Clues: After a crash, check Event Viewer (search for it in Start) > Windows Logs > Application/System. Look for UVI/Falcon errors or disk I/O faults around the timestamp—share if you see "0xC0000005" or drive timeouts.
    • Isolate Banks: Since UVI suggested corruption (but tests passed), zip and exclude one bank at a time from the path, then rescan. Legacy/discontinued banks often lack previews/tags, worsening indexing.
    Next Steps
This matches reports from audio forums where external SSD indexing in UVI triggers faults, but not in more robust scanners like Kontakt's. Start with disabling indexing—it's the least disruptive and fixes ~70% of similar cases. If crashes persist, hit up UVI support with your logs (they're responsive for hardware quirks) or test on another PC to confirm the enclosure/drive.

If none of this clicks or you share more details (e.g., exact error message, which banks crash), I can refine further. Hang in there—we'll get your presets loading smoothly!

I am currently testing all the solutions suggested by Grok. Even when I disable indexing in Falcon or Workstation, I still get crashes, but much less frequently. I already installed the latest firmware for the Samsung 990 Pro yesterday. As ambbe suggests, I may have corrupted banks. I'm going to test that. It may take a while. I'll continue my investigation...
    Thanks for everything.

grock is an idiot:) The problem is most likely not with the disk.
start with moving all the libs to some other folder
then install just with latest Tag and factory libs and recache them with UVIEMU Cachebuilder and see if they work

On second thought, it could be even simpler just run UVIEMU Cachebuilder
