There's nothing to expect from the major labels; they couldn't care less about artists. As long as they can squeeze maximum money out of the system, even if it means the economic demise of artists, they'll do it.

The other major labels will reach an agreement with AI platforms, just like Warner did. It's only a matter of time.

Perhaps it's time for all independent musicians to seriously consider massively poisoning their tracks with tools like Nightshade, used for graphics. According to this video it works for audio too, but the tool isn't available yet.

No one's surprised, the problem you're describing has been known for years.
They've known for ages how predatory capitalism works in the music industry and how it's supposed to continue working.

Just don't use or buy their products. Don't help train their AI and don't give them a single cent of your money.
You're right to be upset, but we're not going to change their system.

Do your own thing, you don't need the music industry, throw private parties,
ignore these companies, and focus on your own strength and creativity.

Here comes the age-old dilemma: Are you in or out of the industry? The thing is sustainability. You can be on the fringe of the industry and never worry about AI, your data being used, and the ethics of it. You won't get compensated for your work either.

The question is how to get ahead of the curve, embrace what's coming and find your piece in the puzzle if you want to squeeze some money out of it. That would make a more productive conversation.

I think a way is to offer and promote humanization services. We've all been there. Suno and the others are like an attractive new relationship with someone. At first, we get floored by their beauty and potential. After a while, the dust settles and we realize that once the magic is gone, we are left on having to work on that relationship or let it go. We know that after a while AI loses its luster. We find the limitations, the flaws. The "AI sound" flavor is just as bas as the MP3 sound we all criticized when it became the standard for music distribution. AI music is here to stay. I believe it's time to accept the curse and start working on educating the regular joe, the non-musician on how AI is just the entry level for music production. There's a huge way towards making good music out of AI prompting.

Thanks for your comment. In any case, I won't be using AI to make music. I also won't be doing any more updates.
Now is the time to realize what's coming and take countermeasures.

Just as we all use PCs, smartphones, and online banking today, AI will seep into more and more areas, slowly but surely.
The next generation, not yet born, is already growing up with AI and will know nothing else.

A journalist wrote that those who don't use AI will be left behind.
She also wrote that one should steal music back from AI.
I didn't quite understand her, I just wanted to mention it here.

I agree with your quote. To a certain degree a lot of us have an affinity to steal back from the system. Morality aside, there's piracy, unending trials. Of course, we play the pirating game for lack of moeny but also because we know that some software is just shit, and getting ripped off after you bought is very frustrating. I think a way to steal back is actually using the prompts as inspiration to create music. I dont see it as a shortcut or a cheat. It could be a well-trained collaborator. It's a way to save time or money. Is it hard for one to finish songs? IA can prompt you a finishing idea. The stealing back part? Soon somebody will figure out how to crack the subscription model and then we'll all celebrate in joy.

:deep_facepalm: it is exactly this kind of defeatist attitude that landed us here in this cesspool in the first place. Like I said its Spotify all over again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. They are betting and banking on lazy people like you to throw your hands up in the air and say I surrender! Its really sad and pathetic to see honestly.

Ai has no place in the creative industry and should be banned from monetization across the board in all of the creative arts.

:like::like::like: Yes exactly and this is what I am doing too!!!

Anyone who isnt doing something about it deserves the end result of part time hobbyist debt because all youre doing is literally giving away your time energy and money to fund billionaires personal noncreative lifestyles of the rich and famous extravagance greed and gluttony. and all for what? some piece of music or whatever that you didnt make and have no claim to? It make absolutely no sense whats so ever at all. Pure madness and delusions!

Ah okay I remember now you are defending Suno in all those other threads. Do you work for Suno? I bet you have some incentive and hidden agenda here. so your "paid for by suno" comments have no real value in this discussion IMO.

I totally agree, but it's the name of the game. I choose to embrace it and make money off it.
