Have you ever reconized a sound from a movie?

The soundtrack of the German crime TV series 'Derrick'* often used a sound from the Roland R8 (1988) drum box. Some kind of reverberated low metallic sound supposed to give a mysterious and vaguely threatening feeling.
(*A classic in european retirement homes, helps the old people to fall asleep)
And some japanese animes of the 90s used its 'katana' sound. Something supposed to sound like a saber sliding from the scabbard, although actual sabers dont do this kind of sound, especially katanas which sheath is made of wood.
There was a 'sound effects' section in the R8, with sounds like cannon, car doors, ...

You’re likely correct. The first sound could be from The Conjuring or Insidious, as both use dissonant, horror-style strings. Many composers layer libraries, so it’s hard to say the exact patch, but Threnody Strings by Sonuscore is very similar to those sounds and could easily achieve that effect. As for Kontakt strings used in those films, composers often mix libraries like Spitfire, Cinestrings, or 8Dio, so Threnody is a great choice for recreating that style.

I used a rhythmic synth FX sample (possibly from Sonic Foundry's Methods of Mayhem?) on an album track back in the early 00s, and instantly recognised it when I heard it a few years later used as part of the background audio bed on the DVD menu of Cum Fart Cocktails 7.

I can't remember the exact sounds/presets anymore, but as a Wavestation user that thing was all over 90's soundtracks.

I'm pretty sure that Audio Imperia's Jaeger was used in Path of Exile soundtrack. Specifically, Merethe Soltvedt's vocals.

    Check it at 3:14:

And here's the Kontakt library (24:31):

Yea I played with Threnody Strings I'm almost positive they used that. However you can get the same sounds from Spitfire Hans Zimmer strings.

Pick any random patch from the Roland JV-1080 and you've probably heard it in some media or other.

When I watch a movie I don't pay attention to any noises, effects or care about any individual 2 second sounds, I just want to relax and be entertained, if a like a song or tune from the movie I just get the soundtrack.

Immediately came to mind when I read this. God knows how much George Lucas alone owes that guy in royalties?! :dunno:

Unfortunately I can't remember where I got the info, but I can swear I read that many audio fx on Alien (1979) were made with an ARP 2600 (like star wars R2D2).
I would say: the moment that Mother receives the beacon signal with final fart(!!) and that continuous out of phase double sine wave swiping up&down, like in the med lab.
