Kali IN-8 2nd wave + IK Multimedia ARC Studio.
I have this setup and I can hear pretty trustable the bass frequencies even if the acoustic of my room is terrible (it´s my living room and I can´t treat it unfortunately). It is a really good setup for the price.
In case you go for it, do as first just the 7 recordings correction (short one) with ARC and then try to reduce the problems by using the dip switches behind the monitors. For me the -2db low and +2b hi frequencies helped and most of all, I changed the dip switched as if the speakers would be on the desk, even tho they are theoretically on the stand (but half of the surface is actually on the table).
    Hope it helps

Exactly, i don't get it how can they achieve all these at such a budget friendly price.
It's not like that they are only for home audio or chi-fi , you can actually mix with them and the result will certainly shock you

Edifier, an experienced manufacturer of standalone speakers, bookshelf speakers, and headphones, is now entering the studio monitor market.

Why? Like any company that wants to grow, it's conquering new markets. Because they can, and because they offer excellent value for money, they have the know-how to deliver high-quality sound. The company employs 3,000 people and produces 8 million units annually.

newer Genelec 8331 are completely different league (but price too though)

in the span 25 years, i already use heavily on Ns10m (wiht Hafler), Genelec 1030A, Yammy Hs50,Hs7, Tannoy Reveal 802, Adam F7, Presonus Eris, Presonus Scepter 8... beside Adam and Presonus Eris most of the speaker i mention i am happy during the time with them, countless job and work done, many client happy.

Now heavily rocking with Nuemann KH80 and KH120.. love it.. so if u have the budget i would suggest try Nuemann, in a proper room. But again its a matter of taste, many suggested here really a good speaker after all. But get something last longer, not start to giving problem once warranty period end.

Yamaha HS 8 are a good choice – excellent value for money!
I own a pair myself and am very happy with my choice, which was also not an easy one to make.

Now that I think of this, this was about 20 years ago, and these were my first real studio monitors - I was awestruck how good they sounded on vocals and drums. But that might just been my inexperience talking, since I moved from god knows what shitty speakers directly to these babies. Also having my first good Rode microphone for vocals also probably made the Genelec's feel amazing to my virgin studio ears. I mean they did sound good, but I'll move KRK's first in my list, because I know I just loved them and actively used them for 5 years+.

I've been thinking of getting new pair of these but apparently there's audible variations between generations so I haven't looked too deeply into in.

If anyone was using the older KRK Rokit RP5's (like 5-10 years ago) and have since that acquired newer generations RP5's I would be super interested in hearing your thoughts on the differences.

It's another of these questions that no-one can really answer except you.

Do you have a budget in mind? How good are your ears? How isolated is the room?

Do good monitors help? - YES!

Does a treated room help? - YES!, your room is a big part of the sound.

What you can't buy are the hundreds & thousands of hours spent listening to reference tracks that you know well. That's on you.

At a push you can mix in any enviroment with most speakers, but only if you know that enviroment really, really intimately, and how it colours your sound.

    Hope that helps, good luck.

You are all so right about the work environment. I was blessed to have my home studio in OG log cabin in the middle of the woods, for about eight years - and boy do I miss those days! I didn't have to do any treatment, no corner/wall/bass traps - not a thing. Everything just sounded so beautiful and natural - and the whole place and the surroundings just gave out such positive vibes.

At the moment my new studio space (forever work in progress) sounds so rough I just use headphones exclusively.

I had to mix on genelec for about 10 years and I'm very happy to say: Today I'm a freelancer and that puts me in a position where I can choose my monitors. And Genelec and Adam are the two brands I try to avoid whenever possible.

Imho there are good reasons to hate genelec:

    1) They do not show mistakes as well as some other brands, you can test that by asking someone to dail in a bell at random frequencies.
Say stop the moment you hear a change. You're gonna be surprised how much you have to dail in on genelecs before you hear it.
    2) They sound exciting, at a point where your mix is not. Making you stop when you should put more work into your mix.
    3) They sound exciting, having your ears fatigue earlier than other brands
    3) Their linearity is legendarily non-linear.

Are they 'good'? Yes, there are way worse monitors out there (KRK). Are they worth their price tag? No.
Why do magazines prefer genelec? Genelec is and has been a studio standard, engineers are used to that sound and like it.
Plus genelec does a lot of advertising in those magazines. You do not kill your golden goose.

If you love all the brands I hate thats fine and as a matter of fact there are people out there who create awesome mixes on Genelec, KRK and Adam. But I'd like to emphasise: The genelec hate has a long tradition among mix engineers and for very good reasons.
And it shows. In the last two decades I've seen a huge shift away from Genelec. Today I see way more Neumann out there than Genelec.

These kinds of fact-filled posts are really my favorite. I see a lot of intangible opinion.

Let me just make sure though. Which Neumanns are you using?

My main setup consists of Genelec 8341 and Neumann KH310.
But as you might guess I use the Gennies for checking and compatibility reasons (after all, they're a widely used standard)

    Kate,

I'd definitely go with solid 24 carat gold speaker cases. Maybe some, precious stone inlays, stolen from from India or somewhere back in the day.

Would match the solid gold piano granny had!

I resent paying for it though, just so you know!

    IMHO, find yourself a nice pair of NS10's and a Bryston 3B amp, or a pair of KRK E7's, E 8's, or E8 B's.

The NS10's will dial in your mids and the E8's will open your sonic landscape.

This is not what I might guess at all.
