Treat your room with absorbers, i made my own. stonewool and boards and sheetcovers.... Adam makes great stuff, i have the Adam A77H cost then 3000 euro, def worth it, it also comes with software that you can combine with sonarworks and insert it in real time in the app.

So i cant say for small speakers, but i'd be looking at Adam.. Focal is also good, but they dont have the software integration.

Well there is a lot of speakers, generally a treated room and decent speakers will make you used to them, small speakers have lowend issues but good midrange,

So look for medium big, and hz range preferably 38hz - 20k but thats hard to find in small speakers.

I recommend Adam because they are just so good at what they do!

check coaxial monitors, they are more forgiving to untreated room and have wider sweetspot,
only reasonably priced 3-way are Kali Audio IN-8 (v2) or smaller Kali Audio IN-5
2-way are fine but rather stay away from 8" so maybe Presonus Eris Pro 6 or Tannoy Gold 7

Might be worth pointing out that each of those are the price of a single speaker rather than a pair.

I can't recommend the Genelec 8340 enough, but I know that those can be too expensive for some. I'm sure that the 8040 with Sonarworks or IK Arc X could sound pretty much as good if you want to save $1000 or so.

Speaking of IK Multimedia, I've been surprised over how well the iLoud Precision MTM, Precision 6 and Precision 5 monitors have been received so I've been wanting to give them a listen. No store near me has either of them though, so I haven't been able to listen to them yet. The Precision 6 and Precision 5 are not prohibitively expensive, so they could be something to consider. They have ARC X integrated and rather large tweeters with low crossover frequencies for their size, something I don't think any other monitors in their price ranges offer. I very much looking forward to hearing them in-person when I get the chance.

However, like most others here have already said: make sure to treat your room before you upgrade your monitors. Even though building your own absorbers, diffusers and bass traps won't get you a perfect result, it can drastically improve the sound in your room. Buy a calibrated measurement mic, download Room EQ Wizard (REW) and measure your room, then do some studying on how to improve the acoustics. There are tons of resources out there. Here's a video series to start off with:

That DIP around 70hz could be fix with a sub woofer and moving speakers.

If I was to start somewhere today, I think I'd pick either Kali or Adam as my first monitors. Kali's budget 3-way speakers is insanely good for the price and seems to be highly praised. I'm still stuck with Genelec 8040's since 2013 as that's what I'm used to, so I can't really recommend those brands based by ear, but price range/first-pair choices. You just gotta try them out whereever you can. I would definetly NOT recommend Genelecs as I kinda regretted that choice long ago until I grew with them, but they're honestly not for everyone.

Agreed. it was ironically enough one of my options back when I invested in new gear. I low-key regretted not going with Dynaudio given the fact that I am waving around with the danish flag, but that's life. :P

    My favourites (limited experience):
    1. Genelec 1030A (super expensive)
    2. KRK Rokit RP5 (~300€)

I'm currently rocking Adam Audio TV8's (~500€) but I won't comment on them since I haven't used them enough.

But I would def still be using my KRK's if they didn't have the black goop/gunk problem.

I have a subwoofer and have tried every possible speaker configuration, but there's no way I can get rid of the dip in the room.

Does your subwoofer allow phase inversion and signal delay?

Use REW software in real time with Pink Noise Period and adjust parameters (phase, position, delay) until the phase drop disappears in the RealTime Graphic.

    Test one speaker at time.
