Groups such as R2R would not risk their literal years, decade + reputation on trying to malware someones machine. That would spell the end for them as a group and for their reputation. Would I blindly trust the random uploads to public trackers or sketchy sites? No.. Those could easily be patched to include something bad. If you are getting their releases from trusted sources then you have next to nothing to worry about. And if you don't want to have to worry then there is always buying the software... For me, I'll take the risk and sleep easy.
