I've got a massive sample folder of loops and one-shots (mostly .wav) that I want to use in Logic’s Loop Browser, but they're just showing up under Untagged Loops...no waveform preview, no tempo/key data, nothing.

I actually don't mind them being in the Untagged Loops section, that's totally fine.

(I saw a YouTube video recently where a guy was importing a bunch of his own samples into Logic — just WAV files — and they showed up in the Untagged Loops section, which is normal. But the weird thing is, his had waveform previews, just like regular Apple Loops do)

What I do want is to be able to see the waveform preview when I'm browsing through them, the same way you can with properly tagged Apple Loops. Right now it's just a blank icon, which makes previewing a huge folder of samples super inefficient.

So I’m looking for any software that can batch tag and convert samples to Apple Loops (.caf)

Ideally something that can add at least the basics like tempo, key, loop/one-shot type, etc.

Anyone know of anything that still works for this?

I've heard of the old Apple Loops Utility, but I’m guessing that’s long gone or broken on modern macOS Tahoe?

Appreciate any suggestions...3rd-party tools, scripts, workarounds, anything that can help speed up the process. Open to digging in a bit if it means saving time long-term.

hey, i get waveform previews for wav files but not for mp3s, maybe that’s the issue?

strange, as you can see it works here wav 16bit 44.1

 

ffmpeg does wav<>caf. Default behaviour is to copy over the tags from the original file.
Pair ffmpeg with xargs, find, fd, parallel, axe or similar for batch conversion.
