    Hey everyone,

I’m currently laid up recovering from having surgery on Thursday for a broken arm, so I’ve got way too much time on my hands, well… one of them anyway

Figured I’d start a fun thread to kill some time and hopefully get some inspiration...let’s see your home studios!

Here’s mine...the photo’s a bit outdated, as I’ve since swapped out the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol keyboard for an Arturia KeyLab Essential Mk3 (61 key), and the Maschine Mk3 has moved under the desk alongside the Arturia keyboard.

Everything in the setup is routed through a CalDigit T3 Plus hub that sits behind the desk, including my Apollo Twin MkII interface. This lets me just plug a single Thunderbolt 4 cable into my Mac and have everything work instantly which is super convenient.

The MacBook setup is a 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro with 16GB RAM & 1TB SSD and my DAW is Logic Pro

Unfortunately, since I’ve been recovering (and honestly neglecting the studio for a while), I haven’t been able to take any updated shots. But I’d still love to see what setups everyone else is working with! Whether it’s a full-blown production space or a laptop and headphones, post a pic and tell us a bit about it.

looks pretty clean mate. i had a proper "studio" in a basement when i had a house...
now i'm happy with a pc, cheap speakers, a midi keyboard, a good pair of headphones and an ashtray

how can you see/read on that huge screen? don't you strain your eyes?

It’s only a 32", so not that big. Honestly, I’ve never had any eye strain with it...I just keep it at a comfy distance and it’s been great. Your current setup sounds solid, simple, practical, and all you really need to make good stuff!

For my 'on the go setup' I usually have the Arturia MiniLab Mk3 with either the VSX headphones, Audio-Technica M50x, or the Beyerdynamic DT 990s

I have a 34 at the same height and distance away, due to all of these production desks being similar. It really is the perfect size for Logic anyway. Enough real estate to move anything around you need, with no real reason for a second monitor. Since Logic's mixer is always one X keystroke away from view, who needs a second monitor anyway?

The Macbook as work surface and monitor with additional external monitor is still going to give you eye strain; but using the Macbook for keys and mouse can give you neck strain still and do some pretty carpal tunnel syndrome irritating wrist and forearm strain.

If you get an arc stand or whatever, the laptop gets folded up completely out of your way. That level of your desk is empty and useful again.
A Macbook stand, external full-sized keyboard and mouse would be the best addition you could possibly make to your workflow. A very inexpensive but serious upgrade in ergonomics at minimum. It also takes all the additional physical wear off your Macbook. Replacing a bluetooth keyboard is alot cheaper than replacing the one in your Mac.

Nice and clean looking setup. What did you do with the ceiling? 8020s, Das Keyboard? The Elite would look even cleaner, but of course the keys are all blank. Cherry MX can be loud but you aren't tracking in there. I only switched to a Craft for my DAW computer because the scroll wheel being on the top left corner of the kb is more useful for horizontal daw scrolling.

    :thanks:

    - It's 8040a's.

    - The ceiling panel is just a PET absorber from t.akustik I've had laying around, does fine in this small room.

    - it's a Das keyboard, with blue switches. Is loud. People seem to be annoyed with that and I'm tired of agreeing with them but it's what I'm used to. I'm getting a new one with something more silent so people will stop bothering me about it, even though they can't hear it. I'm tracking my voice just fine.:dunno::rofl:

I love them, wired of course. Once you get up into the 150+ wpm speeds, there is nothing else like them. The Cherry MX Blue are the worst of all when it comes to volume. There are little kits you can get which can deaden the sound of the key clicks. If you ever work somewhere and you want literally no-one to screw with your desktop computer, stick an elite on it. Most people are just like "what the fsck" and won't even bother to try.

8040s on your desk shelf is crazy to me :). I bet they sound great but damn. I have the little 8010s on the sides of my monitor and then A7X's out on stand poles. I like the 8010s as my regular system speakers and mostly for checking translation to these tiny devices people listen to stuff on now. Sometimes they are still too loud for me. What do you have stashed in the little desk rack?

It's not as crazy as you might think. Apart from being reference models, they're calibrated with ARC X/ARC Studio Hw and tuned to be, not that bass heavy for what I do (ironically, bass heavy music). And it's fine having them on the desk for now with the space I have. I don't get annoying reflections which surprised me to begin with. I've had the Genelec's since 2013 and they're still working so didn't feel like replacing.
For now, a 2400audio imperium monitor controller, an unused PowerCore Firewire and a MOTU 896MK3 hybrid acting as a preamp/slave interface while having an RME HDSPe RayDat in my machine as main driver.
