    Hey Guys

I am looking for synth VST’s that has a built in step sequencer which allows you to record your own steps within the plugin for Windows PC.

I am aware of Cherry Audio Trident MK3

    Thank you in advance.

Most synths with step sequencers do not let you record midi events into the step sequencer. They end up recorded to the midi track.

You can record directly into the Clip module of Serum 2, but it's a piano roll style clip player anyway. It's not actually all that common to see.

Personally, I'd rather use a pattern sequencer midi fx plugin in front of the synth. You can change the entire synth plugin out, and still not lose anything from inside the pattern sequencer. That way, every synth plugin you have suddenly has a pattern sequencer available, including all your hardware synths. Even then, most of them do not record midi events directly into them. You have to manually create the pattern. It's not a big difference until your midi source is an external drum machine.

What a great sounding VST I had never heard of this before, thanks for the suggestion. The ARP/Sequencer is feature packed.

Thanks for the reply and recommendation.

You know what I didnt even think about using an external ARP/SEQ plugin, I used to use something I think was called BlueARP which was really good and as you said doing it this way I can use any plugin with it and save all the patterns I create in BlueArp ready to use with any synth plugin.

Many thanks for pointing out the obvious, sometimes we just need reminding of other options, awesome suggestion @clone.

This is a great sounding bundle with some awesome 80s sounds and a very good price too, thank you for suggesting this.

Like @clone , I prefer to use a VST sequencer in front of my synths. BlueArp is really good, as I'm sure you know, since you use it... but I find it a little difficult for my brain to understand. I will also recommend Stepic, as it is pretttttyyyy damn good. So much you can do with it, including randomness, locking to scales, and controlling MIDI CCs. I really haven't needed anything else.

Try 510K Seqund or Devicemeister StepicVST. These things have come a long way from Blue,Cthulhu, Kirnu, Nora, because they were basically just arpeggiators with some expanded functionality. The current crop of MidiFX plugins do alot more than that. It's like working modularly, where if you make a great pattern and don't like the synth you picked, you pull out a cord and stick it into another sound module.

I like to avoid what I call "nested work" anyway. Everything you have done and saved inside a synth plugin, usually using its preset system; is gone the minute you want to load up another synth. Or even change a preset. The data you have saved into that preset is locked inside that plugin, with a generally good bit of work to get it out and useful elsewhere. If you want a semi-locked version the closest thing to it that I use is UVI Falcon. You have all kinds of modular options with various sequencers inside it.

This stuff is a pretty new layer of what Logic users have been able to do within the Environment for about 6 or 7 versions. The problem for most users is it looks oldschool like Reaktor without of all the pre-built ensembles people love Reaktor for now. It's very similar to Kyma Sound System, but for Midi instead of low-level synthesis. If they put a pretty wrapper on it and stuck it in your face as obvious as all get-out to force users to learn it; it would have evolved into Bitwig.
