I want to convert music in audio files to MIDI.
Nothing comples like a symphonic orchestra, just simple leads / melody / bass.

What applications are good these days for this purpose?
Of course accuracy is important but also the simpler the better.

Celemony: Melodyne - looks like it might be suitable, but it looks like a complex application to learn.
Is it the best for this task?

If you are owner of FL Studio and use edison, this vst has a function of audio analysis that converts audio in notes in the piano roll.

You can then export the score to midi.
Either you use NewTone vst.

 

And if you have Ableton Live 9 try harmony to midi or melody to midi functions.
You can also midi guitar plugin. as stated above, melodyne is great at that. I use it all the time.

 

logic pro x and pro tools has this feature as well. but if you have melodyne i would try it first. i have had great results with it in ableton and lpx.
