I have 32 GB DDR5 RAM on my Windows 10 PC- and I usually have a bunch of tabs open. Even then, not a ton of RAM is used (sometimes I even play intensive games with the browser running in the background without a noticeable impact on performance).

I do close the browsers before I do anything else intense, like music production or video editing.

I use ublock origin in firefox.
/oh yeah, and having an account makes things easier. but without ublock the whole internet is just unusable.

I am thinking about installing a pi with pi-hole... sooner or later it is mandatory as every single fcking damnd kitchen appliance is going to have a screen serving ads. From the point the Samsung TV started showing ads plus Netflix and Prime having them although I pay for the subscription it more and more feels like rape. IMHO we are long beyond the point where it is just an annoyance.

no contest. U-block Origin - running it in chrome and FF. the chrome implementation is tricky but perfectly doable.

    small additions to all mentioned
ClearURLs – removes tracking parameters from links to keep your URLs private.
Violentmonkey (Greasemonkey and Tampermonkey) – Useful for handling various web annoyances, especially when certain ads or scripts can’t be blocked by traditional ad blockers.
CanvasBlocker – prevents browser fingerprinting. However, it can sometimes break site functionality, so use it only if you know what you’re doing.

Brave is an outstanding browser with builtin adblocking feature, works even for youtube.

if you want to support a specific site i guess you can simply exclude it in setting.
