Can I Install Omnisphere 3 if I have a Previous Version of Omnisphere? (purchased version)

Yes, you can run your Omnisphere 3 installer if you have a previous version of Omnisphere (version 1 or 2).

Omnisphere 3 is backwards compatible. Therefore, if you have a previous version of Omnisphere installed, you can run this installer to upgrade it to Omnisphere 3. Your User data will be preserved and available in Omnisphere 3.

I saw 2min YT video of a guy installing Omnisphere 3 with "Spectrasonics Download Manager" that install the library directly from the cloud, the progress bar was like 20gb of 61,49gb.... So the whole library is less than 62gb of data.

 

I believe they have mentioned using lossless format to include all the previous library and new content but at the same size as previous library.

 

I guess, it's FLAC compression.

funny that the omnisphere palette colours interface is mostly the same. if you look at nexus or serum its completely different

 

they kept it on purpose i believe as a "visual identity" i suppose !!! i mean when you see the color even on blurry monitor in the background of a YT video you know it's Omnisphere

 

It’s honestly surprising that Omnisphere hides the Mod Wheel from the main screen especially since it’s such a key player for sound modulation and live performance in DAW
Users have to dig through menus just to find and automate it, which really slows things down
Funny enough, many presets say “Mod Wheel controls this or that,” but you won’t actually see it on the main GUI
For something so important, it really should have a spot front and center for easy access and smoother workflow.

i remember many years ago when i had to go into the cc parameters in fl studio and enable the automation then do this then do that...
now in ableton i can just pop a device that lets me modulate the mod wheel whenever i don't have a keyboard plugged in

 

You simply right-click on the source you want to modulate or link, and a small menu opens where you can adjust everything. It's lightning fast and very clearly laid out. Give it a try...!

There is an obvious "just use your keyboard controller" thing going on in Omnisphere in more places than just this one. This is one of the worst.

I like how when you finally close the patch browser (left arrow next to utility), right click a middle section control, sometimes modulate or show modulation are not greyed out, you click that, select wheel as a modulator source and then...

Agreed. It sucks. I'm using a Yamaha Reface CS as a controller. This controller has full hardware integration with Omnisphere. There's just one problem: It doesn't have a mod wheel. So how do I use the mod wheel? Well, I can't! Because not only can you not remap it from what I have found, there also isn't an on-screen Mod Wheel where you could just move it by clicking and dragging on the interface like you can in some other Synths.

 

You own a synthesizer that was manufactured with absolute economy in terms of production costs. I created presets for the Yamaha Reface CS on behalf of Yamaha. Each preset had to be uploaded online because the Reface CS doesn't have its own preset memory.

[PITCH BEND] lever

For smoothly varying the pitch of the instrument. The pitch rises when you move the lever up; it drops when you move the lever down.
By switching the direction in which note pitches are changed by the [PITCH BEND] lever, you can produce guitar-like note bending effects when playing the reface CS as a keytar. Inverting the pitch bend range makes the pitch rise when you move the lever down and drop when you move the lever up. For details, refer to “Keyboard Settings” (page 41).

 

Enabling Mod Wheel in Ableton is easier than FL

Putting a single knob makes it much easier for users who don't have a keyboard to compose, but...

 

The issue isn’t about how to control or automate the knobs, or how to activate them.
The real question is, how can a company this big not include a knob on the main GUI that allows users to control its own preset sounds

 

The main target of the plugin is obviously keyboards,
and while this approach isn’t necessarily bad, it’s not the best policy either
especially considering they could design and update their plugin to serve all users, not just keyboard players

Do you have an example of other VSTi that have solved this so I can imagine what you want? I've attached a picture of the ModMatrix, is that what you mean? The Rapid VSTi has a mod matrix (see picture). Would that be better for you?

Sorry, I live in Germany and my English is poor, so maybe I didn't quite understand your question. Well, I have a MIDI keyboard controller from Roland, I don't miss anything on omnsiphere.
