Yes, there was a time before the internet when you read a printed newspaper and flipped through the pages.

Today, I've already saved tons of paper because I scroll through the online newspaper with my mouse wheel. I think that's called progress. Remember that you have everything in your hand and memorize where the device's power button is.

That thing on your neck - your head has a content called the brain. Use it more often and think about what you're doing or reading.

the problem isn't really "addiction", the problem is the destruction of the language. They are no moderate and relative terms left to describe anything. Every action against something is a "war", a war on drugs, a war on sexism, a war on war, etc, there is no curve, no slope, no ramp, only right to war, everything must be a war.

Same for addiction, there are no terms , like "enjoy", "engage in", prefer to spend my leisure time engaged in scrolling random pages, no - every desire has become an addiction. I'm addicted to food (no shit,its what keeps you alive). I'm addicted to sex (no shit,it what keeps humanity alive). I'm addicted to sport, (no you in fact enjoy watching or playing sports,but won't die or become ill if you stop for even a few moments)


The language has been diluted, and our means of communicating ideas with one another have been neutered or stupified to the point communication grows more difficult year by year, with Oxford dictionary adding stupid phrases for word of the year like "Swipe Right", etc.

to borrow a phrase that proves the point, the language is being enshitified.

 

Your comment reminds me strongly of George Orwell - Newspeak ('1984') so, the reinterpretation of terms!

But seriously, it's a problem. Not so much for an old fuck like me but, say, under 30 many people are addicted to tiktok. Especially girls, I think?

For youtube I guess it's similar. I installed a "shorts and recommendations" blocker in Chrome and does wonders. In my case it was more to avoid the AI garbage but I can feel the potential rabbit hole.
