I think there is some confusion - both laptops I shared have "ultra 9 285h" which has Base frq of ~ 2.9 Ghz (though they have "soldered ram" if that matters - 32 GB LPDDR5X-8400MT/s)

Similar to very powerful - Asus Zephyrus & even ThinkPad P1 Gen 8 which you suggested.

Also these laptops are commercially successful, so im assuming the optimization is good.

So, you think 2.9 is good enough? because the other things are pretty good in Yoga i9 - even price is competitive (les gpu)

NOTE - A lot of peeps are preferring AMD over Intel these days for laptop due to efficieny/less heat - but then again AMD has less base frq wrt Intel generally, so its confusing *_*

I haven't found a brand I really like.
All I can say I hate HP from the buttom of my heart. Whatever budget, even the Elite books, HP always stands for Horrible Products. I used to like Lenovo, but one thinpad died on me (backlight went black, with very little hours run) and the others would be OK besides the fact that the 16" Ideapad and the 16" Legion have a very annoying fan curve.
I got a 14" Lenovo Yoga with a beautiful oled display, that one is my most liked so far.
People say those yogas are their worst line and break more often, I seem to be lucky with this one.

But you how it is with religion... You just stick with it.

Sure, a deal here and there, the Legion was to be 1600 when it was not in sale. But I never went to 2500 and beyond.
The Elitebook might have been in that region, I bought that from a leasing return, but from what I can tell it's pricey because it has a better case and corporate features I don't need. To me it seems they all get the same crappy mainboard that is just good enough to drag you over the warranty date.
Oh.. Now that I think about it, the Elitebook is the only Intel CPU I bought in a long time.

AMD used to have enormous heat problems before it invented Ryzen, meaning the CPU for laptops was simply too hot, which is why laptops used to only have Intel CPUs. Sadly, in my country minimum base has 5070 Ti - which makes the laptop 300$ +
So I will end up paying for GPU which I dont want (I will separately buy GPU for my PC)
BUT, we do have ROG Strix G16 (2025) here around ~250$ (with Ultra 9 Processor 275HX but 16 gb RAM which I can upgrade)

Other options are Yoga pro with ultra 9 285h
Now I have to decide whether 285h is good enough? or 275hx which obviously better is needed for music prod or overkill ..

 

Even Im considering Yoga Pro or even IdeaPad Pro 5 Intel Core Ultra 9 -
Because they both have ultra 9 285 h + 32gb ram + 1 tb ssd
So, im guessing this would be powerful enough for laptop to drive Ableton + Heavy VSTs

I know its not the most powerful, but 285h has decent scores around 1000 cinebench V/S Super high 2000 score (Ultra 9 275HX)
Also, since GPU is very basic that means Heating will never be an issue
