Seems like virtual/ITB is quite satisfactory for many here on the forum. I'm thinking I've had a naive understanding of the importance of analog and its apparent difference in producing... Maybe I should get the TR-8 instead?? Lol

Indeed. Times have changed, and today you can have a Minimoog that sounds authentic enough even on an iPad ;-)

My opinion about the TR-8: Yes, it's a good emulation of the 808 and 909 in one box, but it's still *only* an 808 and 909 emulation, apart from the fact that Roland say they will add a few other vintage drum "models" soon. I'm sure the TR-8 and TB-3 are lots of fun when trying them out the first time, but for the music styles you're in, would you want to limit yourself to these drum sounds only?
    I wouldn't.

Working only with VSTi has another advantage over external gear: Total recall. You save your DAW project, and usually all VSTi settings are saved automatically, so when you load a song, you don't have to worry about what (external gear) sounds you have used for this song. They'll just be there, and your song will (usually) sound exactly like it sounded the last time you've worked on it.

Thanks, I never knew that the likes of Spire, Monark, TAL Bassline 101 and Diva were emulations. Awesome! I love Spire as well, btw.

That's pretty frickin awesome! I've generally ignored any iPad softs. I think I'll have a look at these more closely as I have the iPad Air. Thanks for that.

nave by waldorf is a monster, that thing is just awesome and it has bass.
nanologue by steinberg is also very nice tho it misses a few things one would expect on a software synth
    sunrizer is also really nice
thor by proppelerhead (yeah the one from reason) also really good and amazingly versatile
jamup pro by positive grid is a guitar fx simulator and sounds amazing their other software for the ipad is also very good
sugarbytes has made ipad version of turnado and wow
oscilab also seems very intresting tho i havent had the time to really look into this one yet
Z3TA+ by cakewalk is amazing, that thing has attitude very nice for leads and bass
korg also has a range of recreation, ms20, polysix but i'm not liking them alot
stuff made by virsyn is kinda soso
best to check the synthapp on youtube for a demonstration before purchasing as some may seem very nice to the eye but are terrible to the ear, and sometimes they are even more pleasing to the ear than they are to the eye. the ipads are starting to gain ground in the production world but with the amount of apps it can be difficult finding the good ones

try keeping an eye on this site as it tracks appchanges, pricedrops and new apps.

Thanks Xsze! I'm so eager to get under it's hood but because I bought it from the US I need a US plug adapter so it's sitting pretty on my now very cramped desk... At least I have Maschine Studio to get by with as well which now leads me to my next project: Studio redesign. I'll definitely be posting a thread to this awesome community soon on the best ideas/ethos/ergonomics/workflow/budget/materials for my 'new' studio.

Thanks to all who have helped me on this one piece of gear!

Yeah, I'm also keen to know what a real buyer of the gear has to say about it. I see the second plug-out instrument has been released for it, btw
