No doubt they have some great plugins that still hold up. As far as the newer plugins, i find many of them are nothing compared to the old catalog. Sound city studio's is awesome, but the reverbs are just reverbs, theres not proprietary room blah blah, just marketing mumbo jumbo. Capitol Mastering Compressor is shamed by its predecessor, Magic Death Eye, which came out years before from DDMF. Either way, i too hope its UAD, as while i own a majority of the catalog, there are a couple i don't have that i actually do want, and it would be fun to see the shock through the industry.

They already released Motu Performer newest version in recent weeks. I always wonder why they do not put their keygen with the full Mac version and get some more downloads. ;)

 

I don't think it will be VSL. Besides the GigaStudio versions released in 2013-2014, at least 8 VSL (Kontakt versions) have been released since July this year (2025). And absolutely zero UAD versions have ever been released. I'll put my money on UAD.

 

UAD -2 . UAD first version had a release way back. You could reset the demo days for all the plugins.

If my memory serves me well it was like patched by them super quick and you had to use only a specific version to make it work.

 

I think the gong is there, at least the beginning. I don't know how long it will last, but apparently there was a Metric Halo release and a few other things, all iLok-protected software. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

 

Yeah, every new drop I check for i**k in Install Requirements.

 

They have all been done already though. Actually, most of them are the updates of things they have recently released in the past few months, which were mentioned in nfo. Maybe a few are new individual plugins. After halloween, what is everyone going to already need desperately by Black Friday, anyway?

 

Pro Tools, Reason, Slate / SSL or Softube would be my dream fr.

i sometimes wonder why they rarely do mac. I vaguely remember them saying something like "software should be available to all" or something along those lines. I know other teams release some mac stuff that r2r only releases windows versions of, so i know its possible for them.

before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, im not saying "mac please", just something i have wondered. I buy 90% of software i use, and could care less if something get's released that i don't have. If i don't have it, and want it, i just buy it.

 

I guess those are Keygen releases, where they don't have to modify any files in the software itself, they just find the logic behind the activation and replicate it through the Keygen, so it can work on any system and they don't have to do any platform specific extra work. When it requires modification in the plugin code then they do it for the Windows only.

 

That's too much in comparison to just one brand UAD.

 

R2R is addicted to Keygens, for lord knows why. Even when they could make pre activated stuff, they still resort to keygens. And it would be understandable if it was just their preferred method relative to their capabilities. In some cases, when they have to modify the main binaries to accept the keys generated from their keygens, they could just take one more step and make it pre activated but they still don't. They patch the binaries to accept the keys from their keygens but in the end, keygens it is. There's no other way besides keygen for R2R.

The way they pack their releases, my best guess is the nostalgia / addiction to "scene" conviction. And they are not the only ones, anyone who comes close to scene gets infected with scene's way of doing things, imitating them even when they are not real scene like R2R.
