So, I discovered Neverender and got amazed by the sounds and feeling from that track, but there is something that keeps haunting my dreams... THE KICK!

I searched through my extensive collection of samples and even tried to recreate it, but my abilities don't let me go beyond this

Probably it's from a vintage drum machine like a 707 or Linn Drum, but there is something different, the kick is so smooth, the top is not to much bright, and the low end is PERFECT punchy, I looked through those machines and didn't find any samples that match the original, maybe they did some processing on top to make it sound different.

I summon the all-mighty wizards of sound to help me find THE NEVERENDER KICK!

it might help to watch the MWTM tutorial MixWithTheMasters Producing Neverender by Justice ft Tame Impala TUTORIAL

If that is the wrong track, that's because you should have included a link or something to the one you are asking about.

808!!!!!???? 0_O I didn't even know it had a proper kick, haha! I thought the 'kick' was the classic 808 sound that is used on hip hop tracks. Now I need to find the matching sample from my 808 packs. THANKSSS MY FRIEND :D

If you have XLN Audio XO, you can sample the kick from the track and then put it in your sample folder, then let XO scan your sample folder, and it'll find the kicks that are most similar to it. But yea there might be processing on it, I'm not really up to speed with 808s.

The only plugin that is always active that's on that track is a Fabfilter Pro-Q3.

keep in mind that its not just about the kick, but also how the kick acts in context to the rest of the elements / arrangement. Arguably more important than the actual sample itself.

Another thing worth considering is the processing. Not just on the kick, but again, the kicks relationship to the rest of the track. Alesis 3630 on the master buss is a good place to start, where the kick engages the compressor, and with the right settings give you that "justice" sound. as well as a tight and snappy parallel compression bus for the kick / snare. There is a decent free emulation called Nightshine by discodsp.

I like using loopcloud to run a kick pattern then go through my kick sounds and find what kick sits best in my song in key and time. Attack and release.

I know people use ableton drum racks for this where they make a rack of a bunch of kicks and use a macro to scroll through ones that fit best
