how do you get posts on twitter/instagram to show up in front of people (not specific people) i mean in general

do you use #music for example and the posts appear in those topics? does that work for both platforms in 2024? i am not sure if that still works

    thanks

One thing that helped boost my reach early on was making sure I was interacting with people in my niche—commenting on their stuff and replying to DMs. Also had a bump after I decided to buy instagram followers; it's not magic, but it made my profile look more active so real people were more likely to follow and engage. Timing and using the right hashtags made a difference too.

General Ways to Boost Visibility on Social Media
To get your posts seen by a broader audience (not just your followers) on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, the key is leveraging the algorithms that prioritize engaging, relevant content. Both platforms use machine learning to push posts into feeds like "For You," Explore pages, or search results based on user interests. While hashtags play a role, they're most effective when combined with high-quality content that sparks interactions (likes, comments, shares, saves). Posting consistently (e.g., 3–5 times/week), using visuals/videos, and timing posts for peak audience activity also help.

Hashtags specifically categorize your content, making it discoverable in topic-based searches, hashtag feeds, and recommendations. Yes, using something like #music can group your post with similar content, increasing chances of appearing in those "topics." However, relevance is crucial—irrelevant or spammy tags can hurt reach. Below, I'll break it down by platform, focusing on 2024–2025 trends (algorithms evolve, but core mechanics like these held steady through late 2024).

Instagram in 2024: Hashtags Still Work, But Focus on Quality Over Quantity
Yes, hashtags absolutely help posts show up in general audiences on Instagram in 2024. They boost discoverability by appearing in search results, the Explore page, and Reels recommendations when users browse topics. Instagram's algorithm favors content with strong engagement signals (especially shares and saves), so hashtags alone won't go viral—pair them with entertaining or relatable posts.

    • How it works: Adding #music to a post about a song recommendation could land it in the #music hashtag page, where non-followers scrolling that topic see it. The algo then tests it with small audiences; if it gets quick engagement, it expands reach.
    • Best practices:
      • Use 3–5 relevant hashtags per post (e.g., mix broad like #Music and niche like #IndieMusic2024). Up to 20–30 is allowed, but more than 5 can look spammy and dilute impact.
      • Place them in the caption (not comments, as that reduces SEO value).
      • Prioritize medium-popularity tags (10K–500K posts) to avoid getting buried in mega-tags like #Love (billions of posts).
      • Track performance via Instagram Insights to see which drive impressions.
    • Effectiveness: Studies show posts with at least one hashtag get 12.6% more engagement, and relevant tags can increase reach by 20–30% on Explore. However, since late 2024, you can't follow hashtags anymore (removed feature), so they shine more for search and algo categorization than direct feeds.

Tip Why It Boosts Visibility Example for #Music Post
Niche + Broad Mix Balances competition; targets interested users #Music #NewSongAlert #HipHopBeats
Add to Reels/Stories Reels get 22% more reach; hashtags help algo push Short clip of you humming a tune with #MusicMonday
Encourage Shares Algo prioritizes shared content over likes "Tag a friend who needs this vibe! #Music"

X (Twitter) in 2024: Hashtags Work, But Keep It Minimal for Real-Time Reach
On X, hashtags remain a solid way to tap into general audiences in 2024, especially for trending conversations. They categorize posts for the "For You" timeline, search, and topic feeds, helping non-followers discover you via real-time trends. The platform's fast-paced algo rewards timely, conversational content, so hashtags amplify that by joining global chats.

    • How it works: #Music on a tweet about a concert could appear in the #music search feed or trends, exposing it to users following that topic. High engagement (replies/retweets) then snowballs visibility.
    • Best practices:
      • Limit to 1–2 per tweet to avoid looking cluttered (X's character limit makes this key).
      • Use trending or industry-specific ones (check the Explore tab for real-time trends).
      • Tie into current events for max exposure—e.g., #Music during award season.
      • Avoid overstuffing; it can flag as spam and reduce reach.
    • Effectiveness: Hashtags can increase impressions by 20–50% when relevant, as they help the algo match your tweet to user interests. In 2024, they were especially powerful for events/topics, driving more search-based views than on Instagram.

Tip Why It Boosts Visibility Example for #Music Tweet
1–2 Targeted Tags Keeps tweets readable; focuses algo on relevance "Just discovered this banger—life-changing! #Music"
Post During Peaks Aligns with active users/trends Tweet during evening hours with #MusicTwitter
Spark Replies Algo boosts interactive content "What's your go-to pump-up song? #Music"

In summary, hashtags like #music do get your posts into topic streams on both platforms in 2024, but success hinges on engagement and relevance. Experiment, analyze what works (use built-in analytics), and focus on value-driven content. If you're promoting music specifically, tools like Later or Hootsuite can suggest optimized tags. Start small, track results, and scale up!
