Cool idea — there are some really good software tools and plugins that can help you get that “strat‑style, clean / jazzy / comping / chordal” sound — either by modeling a clean guitar tone or by generating realistic strummed chords from MIDI. Which tool is “best” depends a lot on your setup (DAW, CPU, whether you want to play the parts live vs. program them, etc.), but here are some solid options + tips.

    What to look for
To nail that style, you’ll want software (or plugins) that support:

    • Clean / low gain / warm amp or DI modeling

    • Realistic chord / strum articulation (i.e. up/down strums, humanization, velocity sensitivity)

    • Ability to shape voicings / inversions / muting

    • Low latency (if you’re playing live)

    • Flexible effects (reverb, compression, mild chorus/EQ)
You might combine two pieces: a “virtual guitar / strum engine” + a “clean amp / cab sim / tone plugin”.

✅ Good software / plugins to try
Here are options that match your description fairly well:

Tool What it does / why it works for your use case Notes / limitations / tips

    Strum GS‑2
A strumming / guitar modeling plugin (acoustic & electric) with chord recognition and strum control. physicalmodeling.net You can feed in MIDI chords and get realistic strumming without having to manually strum every string.

Ilya Efimov TC Electric Guitar Strum (Kontakt library) Lets you choose a “style” and press chords on your MIDI keyboard; handles strumming, picking and chord shapes automatically. DAW Plugin Needs full Kontakt (not just the free player) to use all features.

Strum Guitar by Wavesfactory Sample‑based strumming engine with built‑in sequencer and chord recognition. wavesfactory.com+1 Very good for quickly putting down chordal guitar parts.

Strum Designer (Impact Soundworks) Let you produce rhythmic guitar parts. Supports chord detection and patterns. Impact Soundworks Works inside Kontakt, but you can also export the loops for your DAW.

Smooth Jazz Guitar (Audiolounge Soft) A virtual instrument plugin tailored for jazz guitar tones (chords, mutes, clean tone) KVR Audio+1 Good for when you want a pre‑voiced, playable jazz guitar sound.

Jazz Guitar by Ueberschall / Elastik Sample / loop library of jazz guitar phrases and licks, which you can drop into your project. KVR Audio+1 More suited for arranging / augmenting ideas than live MIDI playing.

Guitar Rig (Native Instruments) Amp / effects modeling suite. You could use a very clean amp model + cab sim + reverb to get clean tones. Wikipedia On its own it doesn’t generate strums; you’d pair it with a strum / guitar engine above.
    Tips & suggestions
    • Layering: strum engine + clean amp
Use one of the strum / guitar engines above to generate the chord performance, then pass it through a clean amp / cab sim (or plugin like Guitar Rig, or a clean preset in Amplitube, Bias FX, etc.) for tone shaping.

    • Humanization is key
Don’t let all strings fire exactly together every time. Use small timing offsets, velocity randomness, round‑robin sampling (where each repeated chord variation is slightly different) to avoid a mechanical “machine gun” feel.

    • Use EQ and dynamics
Cut a bit of high end or presence to prevent harshness. Use a mild compressor to even out dynamics but preserve attack. Add a bit of reverb or room simulation to make it feel “in a space”.

    • Keep gain very low
For that clean jazzy comping, you want headroom. No distortion, just a nice, warm tone with clarity. This means turning down drive/gain on your amp sim, or using a DI + clean model.

    • Play or program with voicings
Use inversions, drop voicings, omit certain extensions etc. This gives a more musical, less block‑chord feel.

    • Monitor latency (if playing live)
If you're triggering chords in real time, latency becomes a big issue. Choose plugins / setups with low latency, or freeze / pre-render parts when possible.
If you like, I can narrow these down to ones that work well on your system (e.g. for your DAW, OS, CPU), and even send you a list of free / trial ones you can try. Want me to filter those for your setup (Windows or Mac, which DAW you use)?
