    R.I.P. - Charles Robert Redford - August 18, 1936 - † September 16, 2025

Redford was one of the most popular Hollywood actors since the late 1960s, the so-called New Hollywood era, and was the highest-grossing film star at the box office between 1973 and 1976. His best-known films include The Bandits, The Sting, All the President's Men, Out of Africa, and The Horse Whisperer.

As a director, Redford directed nine feature films and won an Academy Award in 1981 for his directorial debut, Regular Family. In 2002, he received an honorary Academy Award for his lifetime achievement as an actor, filmmaker, and founder of the Sundance Institute, which has hosted the prestigious Sundance Film Festival for decades. Redford was also active as an environmentalist and supported, among other organizations, the Natural Resources Defense Council.

One of the greatest actors of all time. They broke the mold when they made him. A giant across every style of acting, he inspired generations of young performers. His loss is enormous.

    RIP
Just like millions of others in 1973 I went to a movie theatre and saw The Sting starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman. It was the first time that I saw Redford on the big screen and was exhilarated at both his performance as well as the amazing cast of actors supporting the film. As the years rolled by I saw all of the films that he starred in as well as others he helped create as a director or producer. He was a great actor and seemed to live to tell a story, and he really told some fantastic ones. He will be missed.

Great loss to the Acting and Entertainment industry of the world.

Unfortunately, everything organic has the same property of eventual decay. :(

Good time to rewatch some of his great films, I guess... R.I.P. Mr. Redford.

I, too, liked the chemistry between him and Paul Newman in more than a few films. Will watch "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". Man...

    Interesting read.

p.s. I somehow remember seeing them in more than two films, but they starred together only in "Butch..." and "The Sting". Faulty RAM... I should change the RAM sticks.

    Yeah, it´s a loss, really!!!

Among many great movies I can recomment "A River Runs Through It" - both as director & actor.

a very ripe old age, how many died way too young, long before it should have really been their time (Hendrix, Joplin and so many others) it would have been astounding to see what Jimi could do with todays musical technology.

Ive thought the same about Jimi. They way he looked at the Guitar as his tool and used it in a way others didnt. He might have done the same with other elements in music creation like samplers, Daws, AI, and others.

His contribution to the art of cinema in the US was among the biggest for the last 50 years if not the biggest one, IMHO.
He founded the sundance institute and allowed several new generations of filmakers express their art through cinema.
Always out of the frame of all the hollywood nonsense.

He was a true gentleman and a scholar and he will be missed.
