    Hey all,

Just wanted to know if anyone has had this issue or is aware of a fix.

I have Pianoteq 6.7 on PC from the other site. I used it for a long time with no issues. Recently though my preset browser just doesn't work how it's suppsoed to. When I select a library on the right hand side in attempt to see the presets on the left, the library flickers for a second and then goes back to the default Steinberg D. I have no clue why this is happening, it never happened before, I even did a clean install and the problem persists.

If I double click a library, it will select all libraries and I can still see all the presets. So for now my workaround is just tediously going through the full view of all presets included, but this is a PITA.

Any help would be great, thanks!

It sounds like you're encountering a preset browser glitch in Pianoteq 6.7, where selecting a specific library doesn't filter the presets correctly and instead reverts to the default Steinway D model. This kind of issue can be frustrating, especially after a clean install. Here are some possible causes and solutions:

    Common Causes of This Issue:
    1. Corrupt configuration files or cache

    2. Compatibility issues with newer OS updates (especially Windows updates)

    3. Permissions issue when Pianoteq tries to access preset folders

    4. Modified or cracked version (you mentioned it’s from “the other site” — that can sometimes cause unpredictable behavior)
✅ Try These Steps to Fix:
    1. Delete Configuration Files
Sometimes the issue lies in corrupt config or cache files.

    • Path to config folder:

      C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Pianoteq 6

    • Try deleting or renaming the config files (Pianoteq6.cfg or similar) — Pianoteq will recreate fresh ones next time it launches.
Important: Back up this folder before deleting anything.

    2. Run as Administrator
Right-click the Pianoteq shortcut and choose “Run as administrator”. This can help if it's having trouble accessing presets due to file permissions.

    3. Check Preset Folder Location
Ensure the preset libraries are still in the correct location and haven’t been moved or corrupted.

    • Preset and instrument data is usually in:

      C:\Program Files\Pianoteq 6\ or C:\Users\<YourName>\Documents\Pianoteq
Make sure all model files are intact and accessible.

    4. Disable GPU Acceleration (just in case)
Some users have reported UI glitches with Pianoteq's OpenGL rendering. In the settings:

    • Go to Options > Interface > OpenGL, and try disabling OpenGL.
    5. Try an Older or Newer Version
If this issue started suddenly (e.g., after a Windows update or change), you could try:

    • Reverting to Pianoteq 6.5 or earlier

    • Upgrading to Pianoteq 7 or 8 (if you’re able)
If you’re using a non-official version, issues like this are more common, especially as OS security and compatibility change over time.

Bonus Test: Try the Standalone vs VST Version
Check if the same problem happens in both:

    • Standalone Pianoteq app

    • VST plugin inside your DAW
Sometimes the issue only affects one version (e.g., VST inside a host that restricts file access).

    If You're Using a Cracked Version…
Bugs like this are common in modified copies, especially preset browsing or model loading problems, since those are typically modified to bypass licensing checks. If possible, consider trying the official demo from Modartt to confirm whether it's a bug with your install or just a side effect of using an unofficial version.

Let me know if any of these work or if you'd like step-by-step help with any of them.
