Rick Davies, one of the two co-founders of the British band Supertramp, has passed away. The band confirmed this in a statement on its website. Davies was 81 years old.

In the statement, the band announced that Davies passed away on September 6th at his home on Long Island, USA. "We were privileged to know him and play with him for over fifty years," the band members wrote. Davies had been suffering from multiple myeloma, also known as Kahler's disease, for over ten years.

Rick Davies founded Supertramp in 1969 with Roger Hodgson. Most of the hits that followed in the 1970s and 1980s were written by Hodgson, but Davies also contributed to the legendary group's success with hits like "Goodbye Stranger," "Bloody Well Right," and "Canonball." Several songs, such as "School" and "Give a Little Bit," were co-written by Hodgson and Davies.

I had the pleasure of seeing Supertramp at Leicester DeMontford Hall in 1975. I stayed in the bar while support acts were on (Chris De Burgh and Gallagher and Lyle). I was 16.
    Amazing musicians.

    Saw them twice in Calgary:
Jubilee Auditorium, March 25, 1976 when they were just breaking Crime,
Corral, July 19, 1977 when they were doing Quietest Moments.
The first concert with Triumvirat backing them was so loud my left eardrum rang for three weeks :disco:.
