I don't have account, but lately I can only download from the browser.
So definitely some changes have been made.

I normally only get temporarily unavailable when it thinks something is wrong with an account of mine. sometimes I have to recheck the account for it to understand the account is ok

My only problem with JD is using it on Chrome with captchas for non-premium.
Chrome no longer supports the Java, so the JD plugin won't work.
I have not tried to fix that, as for the rare occasions i need captcha I could use portable Firefox or Opera

At Mega https://mega.io you can store 20 GB for free.
Otherwise, purchasing a large hard drive is much cheaper and safer in the long run.

Its not a storage problem. Its something with jDownloader and mediafire links lately. They get to 99.99% and freeze. I ended up making a burner account with a 30 day trial to get them to complete.

I was hoping someone had a fix to get them to work on a free account.

Im sure this is by design by mediafire to get that $$$$

In case you have multiple windows installtions on the same computer (for example on different drives/partitions) ...for me I can not get a certain Jdownloader to work, but i just make a link that opens the Jdownloader inallaled on another parittion in windows and it just works fnie that way. It's even easier to ahaving 1 jdownloader list on all my windows installations. (I have multiple these days so computer problems on a windows do not immediately make acces complicate as I can just login from another windows account.

I was also interested in the topic, so I asked the AI. I hope you don't mind, maybe that will help you out.
This sounds frustrating, especially if it's a deliberate nudge toward premium (which, yeah, file hosts often design things that way to encourage upgrades). Based on recent reports, this 99.99% freeze with jDownloader and Mediafire links is a common complaint for free users, often tied to bandwidth throttling, connection limits, or interference from Mediafire's Cloudflare protection. Mediafire does impose bandwidth limits on free accounts (around 10GB of traffic per month, though exact daily caps aren't always publicly detailed), and tools like jDownloader can hit them faster due to multi-chunk downloading. Premium trials bypass this by removing limits and ads, which is why your burner account worked.

Here are some potential fixes to try on a free account, pulled from user reports and jDownloader forums—start with the simplest:

    Quick Troubleshooting Steps
    • Pause and Resume the Download: When it hits 99.99%, pause for 10-30 seconds, then resume. This often kicks it over the line by resetting the connection without losing progress. If it freezes again, repeat a few times. Users report this works for incomplete or throttled downloads.
    • Disable Antivirus/Firewall Temporarily: Built-in Windows Defender or third-party AV can interfere at the end of downloads. Turn it off during the process (add jDownloader as an exception afterward) and see if that resolves the freeze.
    • Check for Cloudflare Blocks: If jDownloader shows a "Blocked by Cloudflare-Site-Protection" error before or during the download, that's Mediafire's anti-bot measure kicking in (common since late 2024). Workaround: Open the Mediafire link in your browser, click the big blue "Download" button to generate a direct download URL, then copy-paste that into jDownloader. For bulk links, users have scripted tools like Violentmonkey browser extensions to automate converting share links to direct ones (e.g., scripts shared on Reddit). Avoid adding raw share links directly to jDownloader, as it triggers the block.
    jDownloader-Specific Tweaks
    • Limit Download Chunks: In jDownloader settings (Settings > Connection Manager > Max Chunks per Download), set it to 1 for Mediafire links. Multi-chunk (parallel connections) can cause servers like Mediafire to throttle or drop the connection near the end, leading to freezes. Reset any failed downloads after changing this.
    • Update jDownloader: Make sure you're on the latest version—older builds have more issues with hosts like Mediafire. Also, clear your linkgrabber cache and restart the app.
    • Bandwidth Limits in Settings: If jDownloader is set to unlimited speed, cap it temporarily (e.g., to 1-2 MB/s) to avoid hitting Mediafire's free-user throttling too aggressively.
    Alternatives if Fixes Don't Work
    • Browser Direct Download: Skip jDownloader for these links and download via browser (Chrome/Firefox). It's slower for big files but avoids the freeze—pause/resume in the browser if needed.
    • Switch Download Managers: Tools like Mipony or Free Download Manager (FDM) reportedly handle Mediafire better without triggering Cloudflare as often. They're free and support resuming.
    • VPN or Proxy: Some users say switching IP via a VPN helps bypass per-IP bandwidth caps or blocks, but results vary (and free VPNs might slow things down more).
If none of this helps, it might indeed be Mediafire pushing for premium—check their support for any outage reports, or post your logs on the jDownloader forums for dev feedback. Let me know more details (like error messages or your setup) if you want deeper troubleshooting.

Actually, it's 50 GB these days. It's rather generous also because it is really fast!

I only have 20 GB – interesting that you have 50 GB.

    There's a MEGA bonus program:
5 GB when you install the MEGA desktop app.
5 GB when you install the MEGA mobile app.
5 GB when you invite friends and acquaintances.

Run Java Applets in the browser https://cheerpj.com/cheerpj-applet-runner
The CheerpJ Applet Runner extension allows you to run legacy Java Applets on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge without having to install Java. Try it for free.
