I eventually watched Paul Verhoeven's Basic Instinct (1992)

I wasnt interested to watch it when it was released. I did see the infamous interrogation scene and found it tame. But in the context of the whole movie, it feels very different and gains an unexpected intensity.
In the end it's a good thriller which reminds a bit of Hitchcock (and Hitchcock inspired De Palma's movies) and some Noir stuff. The old school 'realistic' car chase is very effective, as is the erotic tension between characters which makes the spine of the story. Sharon Stone is stunning and very believable in her 'mantis' part. I Think that Rutger Hauer (who often worked with Verhoeven) would have been better than Michael Douglas. I was under the impression that the part was written for him. But Douglas does a good job. Except for a few plotholes, this is a very entertaining movie, with more sex and less violence than what is usual in modern crime movies.

Devil's Angels, a Roger "I've never lost a dollar" Corman produced 1967 exploitation movie.
Although John Cassavetes and Mimsy Farmer are acting in this movie, it is a very low budget typical bikers film. It is rather tame but decently paced. The surf and fuzz soundtrack is cool but definitely nothing to write home about.
What stroke me, and this is why I'm mentioning this movie here, is that I noticed that a part of the lyrics of the song Snuff Rider M.C by Head Of David (1986) are taken straight from the dialogs of this movie. Lines like "All the safe people in their safe homes, we're gonna ride their scooters" or "We gonna blow our own peace, at Hole-in-the-Wall".
The movie is mildly entertaining, cheap but professionnally made.

It's been a few years since I watched this. Watched it again last night. Amazing. Eihi Shiina is stunning as always. She was also in Takashi Miike's 'Audition'.

Following the post above by @David Brock, I rewatched Tokyo Gore Police and The Machine Girl. The Machine Girl has been released the same year and is by the same producers as TGP. There are some actors playing in both movies. TMG has an obviously lower budget.
    It is on youtube :

But when it comes to over the top silly gore, the one to beat is Riky-Oh (sometimes know as 'The Story of Ricky'), a Hong Kong Cat III movie from 1990 (Category III is for sex & violence, Riky-Oh being the first movie to have been placed in this category for violence only). It is based on a Japanese manga. The totally serious (apparently at least) mix of soppy melodrama and cartoonish ultra-violence makes it a one of a kind guilty pleasure.
    Here's the trailer :

In the 90s HK Cat III, I strongly recommend the dark comedy The Ebola Syndrome (1996).

The trailer makes it look like an epidemics outbreak movie, which it is not really. The gore is less extreme than it is in the other movies but more realistic, although still a little silly. There's more sex (rape mostly). The lead actor is very good and his character of a mean-spirited unlucky anti-hero is gold.

Watched Weapons tonight. Absolutely amazing. Creepy as fuck and bizarre in equal measures. My favourite horror this year so far, right up there with Bring Her Back.

    Look at the IMDB rating!

Won't tell you much, as I went into it without knowing anything about the storyline. I think that's the best way.
