cassette is also somewhat practical and it has its own sound, the artist can stick a small pamplet inside etc etc. this practice sticks well with CD cases also and why not LPs too. LP practicality is like 2/10 at best we all know this. seems like LPs and even cassettes manage to keep up with all thats happening, people like to touch things.

but man, if CD ever comes back it will probably mean the beast of streaming has been defeated, what a day that will be.

You could say that everything analog is going digital. No material is needed except electricity. You can send an MP3 around the globe in seconds, or Elon Musk's satellite information. Sending or recording music or speech to someone is a huge miracle to me.

People should really take the time to understand what this technology actually is or how electricity works.
You can't see electricity, but it's the basis of everything from communication via cell phone to recording in your DAW.

Everything changes when the power goes out for an extended period...!
Maybe you can still power your cell phone with a portable solar panel. Let's hope that day never comes.

I would like them making the covers of LPs and selling them with an USB-stick containing the album. THAT I would buy. Or buy the cover without any content. But no crappy vinyl.

Inspired by his mother, Freitas started collecting with a Roberto Carlos record in 1965 and has gone on to amass another six million more, including hundreds of copies of the same albums. Last November alone he purchased a million records.

I'm not making this a war between vinyl and digital: everyone has their own tastes...
a friend of mine loves brunettes, I love brunettes, redheads and blondes!

Personally, I sold my LP collection to that friend of mine two years ago and freed up three wardrobes of space. Zero dust, zero turntable needles, zero clicks, zero everything.
In fact, there are those who only listen to them and those who try to sell them... I play, write songs and try to sell them.

In Latin and Caribbean music, artists have been starting sell their albums on USB sticks for some years now. Unfortunately, digital content is easily duplicated and shared online, so even if an artist manages to sell some material, sales are always too low to make a living from music.

I'm proceeding with an alternative approach, but for a definitive solution (and we absolutely need one), different and definitive solutions will have to be found.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions that you think might be effective? :invision:

This reminds me of something: first of all, we should stop thinking in monetary terms and whether we can earn anything with music. Maybe we should think about music itself, what it is, what effect it has, and the creativity behind it.

Thank goodness music is shared illegally or even for free on the internet, so even poorer sections of the population can enjoy culture and music.

Almost all of us aren't organized, no union, for example, everyone sits alone in front of the screen. We can also join forces in our villages or towns and get something going together. That happens sometimes, because everything else is commercialized. That's why R2R and other teams are so important, because they offer a chance to those who have little to no money to buy music/music equipment/software.

One more thing about vinyl: vinyl is very durable; USB sticks and SSDs have a limited lifespan. In Cuba, there's a person who records programs abroad, films, music, etc., and then re-distributes them in his hometown via a pirate radio station. As you can see, you can wait a long time for something to come from above; you have to join forces with others and take your own destiny into your own hands.

When people have no money and haven't inherited anything, all they have is their labor, which they can sell. So instead of constantly slaving away, which is slavery, we should sit down together, analyze the system, and try something new. Online radio stations are great because they usually don't cost any money. You can also set up support groups to promote music, or hold free concerts with appeals for donations.

I don't think music will ever be recognized enough to receive tax money. We're currently seeing a music club and a restaurant closing down because many people are calling pizza delivery services at home...! So the trained saxophonist sits on the Lieferando bike that then brings your pizza because they would rather give their money to Spotify and no alternative forms of life and culture have been thought up and implemented.

Yes, ideologically I'm with you, but until we find the perfect solution (in fact, I asked for ideas), at the end of every month we still need to put food on the table.

It's a complex discussion because it becomes political, while the solution is complicated because it becomes subjective.

What would a perfect solution look like? I only see the formation of a union to advance one's interests! But I see that very few people even understand the problem; in short, you won't achieve anything on your own. My experience has been that everyone just carries on on their own without making any progress.

Nopes. A vinyl LP lasts longer than vinyl singles, that's the origin of "LP". Cassettes always were longer than any vinyl

    Dear PulseWave,
I'm with you, imagine I was talking about trade unions in the 80s, but the interests at stake are too high.
I didn't even succeed with the help and support of a political representative I used to frequent back then.

The other solution lies in changing the rules of global finance, but unfortunately people, whether out of ignorance or convenience, are completely addicted to and enslaved by the System.
Furthermore, as I said, we're entering the realm of politics and (if I recall correctly) it's not allowed on the site and I wouldn't want to be banned...

Far from perfect, but some ideas:
    - Spotify and similar pay more than slave-salary-split to artists
    - Gigs organizers, merchandise and similar pay more than slave-salary-split to artists
    - While we are at it, somebody nukes tiktok

Not a bad start, ah?

Good approach @Xupito, but how do you want to force the big players to do this?

Let me guess... as in "I've had enough shit reading this thread?" I feel you OG bro...
Beats me. No fuckin' clue and I'm a lazy-ass. Ask ChatGPT and hope for the best; even better: ask Taylor Swift. Fingers crossed!

Sure, it will be fantastic to see more vinyl releases with current music... entirely produced with a laptop. So warm sounding... :deep_facepalm:

Thanks for the intelligent comment, but I actually did not say I did not like them. Only that this thread made me think of them and I verbalised my own questioning of my reasons, which I probably should not have. I am not going to sell them because my mother and father (RIP) left me many of them, including an original first pressing of 'A Hard Day's Night' by The Beatles. I also have several I purchased myself that were first pressings and some rare imports which are not on eBay or available on CD; and in a couple of cases, also not online.

It actually made me want to pull my turntable out and dust it off. I will probably have to get a new Stanton needle though.

P.S. - As I get older, I think often about de-cluttering, which is why I suggested that I was asking myself if I was hoarding :)
