I still have a UAD-1 somewhere, although I don't use it for obvious reasons. The crossgrade path to UAD-2 was utter crap and I stayed away from UA until this year. $150 was finally a fair crossgrade price, with negative interest for the 12 year delay.

 

Weird that they didn't patch it! they must've noticed it by now. Maybe they just don't care and like to see the sales rolling in

 

they are the kind of company where I would expect to find out their little "website error" resulting in lots of sales for them was really a way to run some guerilla type of sale behind the backs of distributors like plugin botique and whoever else carries their plugins on their websites. How much do they really lose by selling something for 50% off the sales price at plugin botique or guitar center type distribution companies, when they obviously have some kind of split on the sales with them? Obviously they might not want to be advertising something like that, but if an error? I'm sure those other websites couldn't do anything about it.

Not much from them would really surprise me.

 

I think what happened on my end, randomly by coincidence I got an offer for £265 on PluginBoutique. I didn't know the difference between this 'Signature' and Spark, what was missing so I went looking for details of the bundle and it didn't show up on UA's site... So I did a name search and it popped up with this price, $149... I spent 2 hours thinking about it, lol, shoulda just grabbed it, but it went through... The servers seemed to be rammed.

You're only missing the Neve 1073 btw from Neve. The others aren't released. Like you I don't care about that A-Type thing.

 

Chatting to AI when I could only see it priced at $265 it thought the price won't drop below that, it reasoned because it reduces the perceived value. It was shocked when I found it at half that price... I was wondering if I should do the 3 months of Spark and hope Black Friday would have the lot at a lower price.

It feels like you say that they made the error and need to keep the reputation, but don't want to lose the sales... They must expect a sister release at some point soon.

 

Also the 'you probably shouldn't be here" message seemed kind of tongue-in-cheek? Kind of like, I dunno they know but were joking around and not making big deal out of it

 

I'm curious who that deal was meant for... Its strange that it was left open so that anybody who searched for the plugins that were in the bundle, that was openly on sale on PB, ended up at this page... Its almost like they didn't care if somebody gave them some money ;)

 

every uadx plugin will be free at some point if you wait patiently enough xd

 

Truly a great business idea! Give everything away and declare insolvency. Paint a cardboard sign that says "Looking for a job - I'll take any job" and sit down at the train station and hold out your hand...! I gave everything away...!

Many plugins that couldn't be sold become freeware, but you can use them for clever marketing to attract customers to your website and send them email advertisements. This also generates user data that you can use.

 

If you want to wait and find out if some people on the internet you don't know are going to give you something for free or not; see how that works out. For $150, I can work on anything someone sends me with UA plugins in their session file. I'm not worried about individual plugins like the magic 1073.

I almost bought it myself, but honestly the amount of cons outweighs the pros to me.

Despite owning legit versions of most of their stuff and praising it, I also can not wait for this day to come, and here's why:

I purchased the 1073 when I got the Apollo Twin. Now the 1073 technically ISN'T native, but it also is, and how the company handle this is endlessly frustrating. Is the 1073 native? Yes it is. Can you just buy it and use it natively? No, you can't. UAD spit out all sorts of reasons for this but the truth is they dangle that carrot because they know it coaxes people into buying their hardware or Spark. The only way to use the 1073 natively is to buy their hardware or Subscribe. Their business, their choice, but just so shady considering it's literally the number one request on their own forums. People want it Native, the demand is there, but they continually choose not to.

I returned my Apollo Twin because despite the hype, it didn't impress me whatsoever, and I hated the workflow of it. Now, after returning it, the device is still registered on my account to this day. I've tried to get it removed, but UAD told me that it is up to the person who purchases the returned device after me to transfer the licence over. Due to this, I still have access to the native 1073 plug-in. No hardware, no spark, it works because it thinks I have a device registered to my UAD account. The moment that device is transferred, the 1073 plug-in I have legitimately purchased will most likely stop working one day and I will lose access to it.

The sooner R2R work their magic and kill the hype on this stuff, the better. The stuff is good, and as a legit owner I do prefer their plug-ins to most alternatives out there, but how they limit access to this stuff and dangle carrots in my opinion is shady.

 

I do not think they are "dangling a carrot". They can probably just include it with their subscription because they are not selling you the native version of the plugin, or selling one for any format they never licensed. Since no-one here has access to read the actual contract, who is to say conclusively?

Maybe you do not remember the Cubase 6/7 plugin version of the Portico compressor and EQs called Portico 5033/5043 for Cubase. You can't buy them, but if you already have them on your e-licenser you can keep using them. Until you can't anymore, because they will not update them.
Which is not the identical situation, but is another example of Neve licensing ending and them not doing anything about it.
