I downloaded a sh*tload of Kontakt libraries without realizing they had no .nicnt files. Am I right in assuming I wasted all my time and effort? I tried loading some of them in Kontakt 8 portable and no go. The one that did load had a .nicnt file included, although it crashed Kontakt three times before it worked. God, I'm stupid! Guess I should have done a little research first.

Not all Kontakt libraries are encrypted libraries (with .nicnt), which is a paid (expensive for some) licensable option for developers to make their libraries compatible with the free Kontakt Player and thus visible in the Library list. The unencrypted libraries (no .nicnt) are accessible through the file browser or by setting them up in Quick Launch. I don't know how Kontakt portable and all that works, but I just thought you should know why some libraries have that file and some don't.

The libraries i tried were all from 8dio. Maybe they're too old for the current Kontakt version. Semarus, I'll try to load one the way you suggest and see if that works.

I don't think that is the case, they're old, but not that old.

You could Backup your Library before playing and trying this from tracer :
    Native Instruments Nicnt-Generator v2.1 x64-TRACER
    (available from the sister site)
I made some for my own Kontakt Libraries and some others I downloaded so they show up with wallpaper now but made my own SNPID numbers.
I'm not sure how you go about finding what SNPID they are already or if you can change them I'm really unsure but I'm sure somebody will help further. I changed them for some of those I downloaded from other Companies that didn't show up before I made the .nicnt and they work OK but maybe best to keep same numbers if they exist with or without the .nicnt

Thanks, I got it sorted. I realized I had to save the library, close Kontakt and reopen it, and that did the trick, although there is no pretty graphic on the left side, but who cares? Thanks for your input Semarus. I just wish the developers at Kontakt would make it a little easier to load stuff.

the resolution for the banner on the side is probably wrong; you can mingle with it in photoshop, you'll figure it out eventually how to crop something from a wallpaper of the whatever instrument you have downloaded; you just replace the Wallpaper.png file generated by klc; klc is somewhere around here; idk how its called, "kontakt library maker" or something like that and has to .exes, klc and klp... didnt figure out what klp is for because i found out how to make it work with klc and didnt care xD

also, if you get the SNPID error, regenerate the .nicnt file; i have around 1100 instruments installed at the moment, so you can take this number as a soft cap for how many you can do
