The other old "scam" was to send them money and an interface to "hack". But they really just added your device to an existing account. It went something like that anyway. I always thought they would just keep the interface and sell it. Why send it back if you can't do anything about it?

I suspect most times you see someone post this kind of thread "some guy said they can etc etc", the original poster who "is just asking about it" is the scammer themselves.

 

I think the interface hack works but you can't upgrade anymore or let it connect to internet etc etc. I wonder how they can continue this hack and not be blocked by UA?

 

This is all illegal anyway. It's about time YouTube deleted the video or the manufacturer UAD sued him!!! Why is @Alex Favilla posting this video? These people want UAD and Pro Tools for free. The owner of the YouTube channel: Bepro LLC - B Milla, generated a headline that got him more clicks. The video now has 595 views. As the following image proves, he's been trying to get UAD-hungry people onto his channel for weeks.

 

I do not know anyone who has actually sent anyone an interface to do it with. I've read people post about it, but it's usually just safer to assume they are shills. I'd never take a nearly $1000 interface and just mail it to someone, no matter who it was.

 

The hack I was talking about, you don't need to send interface. It is done online via UA website. Somehow they register the interface via online and then the plug-ins work, but you have to stay offline with your 'hacked' interface. Well it's not really hacked, they just register the plug-ins on your interface and then you have to stay offline with that interface. I don't know the exact details but the person owns all the plugins and he transfers them to your interface and then when you stay offline they stay registered to your interface. And yes I've heard / read people that confirm this is working. Or at least it was, I don't know if UA has done anything about it, anybody know?

Now that I remember it goes something like the guy registers your interface and his on his account and then does the transfers, maybe something like that, like back and forth. He keeps the plug-ins and you if you keep your interface offline. I think it was at least possible in the past to do it this way without sending interface, that's what I remember. Maybe something changed dunno

that did not happen, and it cannot ...the vid most probably was taken down because of someone who reported it, ,might be UAD or whatever, the guy did nothing wrong, and it cannot be proven, even it stole 5 bucks VERY hardly anyone could get him to court, life is what it is, you go to a lake, throw your stick, get some fishes if any ...bad for them ...he attracted attention so some subjects like the devs or maybe just pissed of fishes ...after all, this is the model way all of this world works, take it or leave it

Yes, this is the same loophole that UAD (hardware DSP) users have known about for years (going back to UAD1 days), registering your DSP card's hardware ID on someone else's system who *does* own the plugins, and generating a valid auth for your hardware.

No, it doesn't work for UADx native plugins.

There's a different hack I recall that requires a hardware modification to your DSP cards that involves sending your cards to be modified to some random dude and you'll pay something like 600 bucks for - at this point, UA sales are cheap, you might as well just buy the plugins you want at the 30 bucks a pop level, or less depending on the deals at the time. No one needs *all* of them, or even most of them, so just cheaply buy the unique ones you really want, it's a lot simpler and no-one is spending 150-300 bucks on a single plugin these days like they did in the past. There are plenty of UA alternatives for most of them anyway, many of which are as good as, or better.

 

Thanks for the info! I didn't know there was hardware modification hack for it too, totally new to me. Very interesting! Not that I'd do it myself, I like to buy my plug-ins but I was just curious. As said, the other hack without hardware mod you need to keep your interface offline forever for the plug-ins to continue working

there are some instruction videos on Youtube way worse than that kind of "instruction video". There are "legitimate use" product demos for locksmithing and bump keys, garage door opener modifications, and all sorts of other things like that. They get posted for "professionals" who use the exact same methods that crooks use. All kinds of things posted like that without a problem. YT didn't just stumble upon something like that.

I remember this one funny news article during the Covid lockdown, in the regular news websites like CNN or whatever. These people were cutting catalytic convertors off of cars and selling them to salvage yards and chop shops, because catalytic convertors contain Palladium. Not the famous club in New York. Anyway, this news article explained how these thieves were doing these thefts for people to read about. The last line in the article said they could do it in under 60 seconds, using this little saw you could buy for $99 at The Home Depot. The only thing they didn't include was a link to the saw and a coupon code.
