So I'm deciding which Cubase to download from the sister site...

R2R and this "P2P V.R" (which I've never heard of) both seem to be cracking groups, but what are the differences between them?

And ultimately, which should I download?

    Thanks.

I don't know the differences but I think it's always better to use R2R

VR rule where Toontrack is concerned, but I totally believe in R2R for most stuff - especially Steinberg apps.

R2R Steinberg releases require R2R Steinberg Silk Emulator, which in turn requires R2R Root Certificate to be installed.

V.R Steinberg releases require their latest unlocker.

Both paths lead to the same destination.

Respect to both teams for their try-before-you-buy solutions.

For Cubase ... I can't recall which I used when I tried it.

Lately (currently) I am using VR for Steinberg (except Hypersonic which is AiR + TCD), but have used a mixture in the past.
I may be wrong, but I don't think there is any interference from either when using a mixture.

I normally prefer R2R but I use VR for Steinberg because I really don't want that root certificate.

I ran all steinberg stuff with V.R.'s unlocker for quite a while until I started getting license issues with various steinberg tools coming up weird after updates or just plain erroring on the license checks on newer versions. I ended up completely removing all the V.R. steinberg stuff which was not an easy task since there is no "uninstall" for it (there is an uninstall for R2R's). All my steinberg stuff got flipped over to R2R silk a little bit ago and have never since looked back. Silk just seems to just run a bit smoother on startup, and seems more solid in general use (might be more psychosomatic, but it's just my opinion after using both methods for some time). Updating is even easier once the R2R emu and cert is in place and working. I'm pretty sure there is a certificate placed on the system with V.R. as well, but since unlocker does all it's magic underneath the hood you never see really see what it is actually modifying. Been thru 5-6 round-robin manual updates of all my steinberg stuff running R2R, and have not experienced a single update glitch since the switch. I do all updating manually.

Bottom line is they both work and the final result of both is basically the same. They just take slightly different paths getting to the same place. Not knocking any group efforts or intentions here this is just an opinion of an end user.

R2R witrhout a doubt. If you install the R2R root certificate and silk emulator you can run official steinberg installers, unhacked (read silk instructions carefully)!

TEAM VR work on Steinberg is quite good, and is working excellent, sorry to say this but, TEAM VR also installs his own certificate, but you don't know about that.

TEAM R2R is better and faster, more reliable, but needs some minor updates to work with all official apps.

The difference between TEAM R2R and Team VR certificate:

TEAM VR Certificate Status - "This CA Root certificate is not trusted because it is not in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store." Not SAFE AT ALL
TEAM R2R Certificate Status - "This certificate is OK." Safe and protected, accepted by Windows cant be misused or manipulated.

I wonder if you could say how one does a manual update of Steinberg stuff.
(I am thinking that means 'direct from Steinberg' (?)
I did a bit of searching here but haven't found anything matching yet.

Not really. Since I allow no internet connections to any production machines any newer versions placed on those boxen must be downloaded on a internet facing box (scanned and checked for any rodentia) and then deliberately placed there - hence manually (well I call it "manual" anyway. It's certainly not automatic). Once the new release is transferred to the prod box (via backend LAN) it usually just involves running the setup for the latest R2R release over the existing R2R version. It's just the way I have always done it...:dunno:

I prefer the r2r variant of Cubendo. I'm using it since those exist and replaced my official and legit installs with r2r release.
Because I don't like those download managers and licence apps and what not.
It's rock solid and I haven't had any issues, but I guess VRs release would just work as well.
About the r2r root certificate: I trust r2r more than microsoft. For me it feels like giving my friendly neighbour the key just in case (and my evil landlord has one to every room of the house and I can't do anything about that.).

just stick with the R2R Silk Emulator variant. get the r2r certificat checker and the r2r emu and from there on you can install whatever steinberg product you want, even besides steinberg products you've acquired legally. not doable with VR, afaik.

R2R always goes a totally clean way, if possible. meaning, not altering anything on the original installer + binaries,
unless they find stupid shit like dev bugs, bloatware etc pp.

can't say so about any other team out there!

and if r2r need to patch, then because of not having a legit serial, to reverse the complete thing with the legit serial.
afaik .. i could be wrong, though.

It may be funny, but my computer works better with VR. I know r2r is great, but I have to because of my computer.
