R.I.P. - Bobby Whitlock passed away on August 10, 2025

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer Bobby Whitlock passed away on August 10, 2025, reportedly after a short illness, in his adopted home of Texas at the age of 77.

Always a music enthusiast, Bobby left home as a teenager with the ultimate goal of Memphis, where he played his first sessions for the legendary Stax Records label. Among other things, he played with the label's house band, none other than Booker T. & The M.G.s. After a few more stops, he joined Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, toured with them for several years, and appeared on the albums "Home," "Accept No Substitute," and "Motel Shot," among others. He subsequently delivered his masterpiece together with Eric Clapton, Carl Radle, and Jim Gordon as Derek & The Dominos, recording the album Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs, in which Duane Allman also played a key role.

Four solo albums followed in the 1970s, but Whitlock failed to achieve major success. After leaving the music business for twenty years, he returned in 1999 with the album "It's About Time," which he followed with his final studio album, "Lovers," in 2008. In the 1970s, he also participated in sessions for, among others, Dr. John and a large part of George Harrison's masterpiece All Things Must Pass.

In recent years, good old Bobby has also had a podcast on YouTube, in which he chatted in an extremely likeable, yet also very emotional way about the old days and his former companions, without mincing his words.

Rest in peace, Bobby, you've made yourself immortal with "Layla..." and "All Things..." alone!
