    Hi!
I'm wondering if Live can run 32bit vst plugins anyhow on newer versions of Live. Tried to find some info on google, but I had no luck.
And now the question is: is it possible to open and work with old Live 9 projects using 32bit plugins on Live 12?

    Thanks!

As of Live 10.1, only 64-bit plug-ins are supported. If you're using 32-bit plug-ins, you'll need to convert them using a third-party tool like jBridge.

Ideally, you should install a native 64-bit plug-in version if available. Converted plug-ins are not as stable as native 64-bit versions.

32bits plugins are discontinued since Live 10 I think but you can use a wrapper in order to use some.

Oh, OK. I understand. But, if I'm using a 64-bit version, that means that a project using a 32-bit one won't load, isn't it, PulseWave? I guess that cannot be done, jbridge has to be used, instead...

Thanks to both of you for your answers.

You can, of course, install an older version of Ableton 9 that still supports 32-bit plugins. You just have to create a separate folder and rename it, for example, Ableton 32-bit. Then you can play your old projects created with 32-bit plugins. Then you would have 2 Ableton DAWs, one for old projects and one for new projects.

FWIW I've used jbridge pretty much everyday for years in Live 11 and now 12 without any problems. It recalls older projects without issue. In all that time I think maybe once or twice I had a crash, but it was not due to jbridge, it was a very old somewhat buggy in certain instances beta plugin I use from the early 2000's and even that still works today. Install, wrap and forget about it. The bridged plugins work like any other plugins you have installed. :)

Same here. I open projects from 9 in 12 all the time with some 32 bit plugins jbridged. No problems at all. Just remember to keep the exact same name for the plugin (jbridge has an option to add the number 32 or 64 to jbridged plugins, so do not use it. I keep my live 9 32 bit plugins and my live 12 64 plugins + jbridges in different folders).

You don't need to convert/bridge EVERY 32 bit plugin you use. All you need is a SINGLE 32 bit host like Chainer which has it's own plugin. Use JBridge to convert that ONE .dll and you can then load ALL your 32 bit plugins into that host in your 64 bit DAW. I don't use Abelton, but this workaround is the dog's danglies in Studio One.

I use Jbridge, the reason it tends to be the most desirable solution is that if you use another DAW they're already set up. Internal bridging in DAWs tends to be kind of sketchy, some bridge really well, others don't.

What that other person said is correct, though, you can find a plugin that's a host itself with bridging:

    https://github.com/kushview/element
    https://kx.studio/Applications:Carla

Those are both free, and I believe they have bridging.

Hosts like that can be useful themselves, so you might just want one anyway.

I'm curious, are you using P&M Chainer v1.2.2 or Xlutop Chainer v1.0.3? Is it perfectly stable? Because I tried to do what you say with BlueCat Patchwork (use Patchwork 32bit to load my 32 bit plugins). Maybe Patchwork is too complex to be bridged because it creates problems with JBridge, it's not stable at all... I'd like to make sure what version of Chainer you're using before trying your technique.
