    Hello,

Neold Wunderlich and VoostEQ Channel N has a very interesting "age" feature that affects the signal between now and then, older and newer trimming the highs in a very specific way and maybe adding some compression and saturation under the hood. This lets you "age" your sound—making it feel older, duller, or more worn, or conversely, fresher and more pristine. This is something I've never seen before. I was wondering are there any more plugins with a feature similar to that ?

I know this effect can easily be accomplished by a combination of other plugins but I was wondering are there any other plugins that have this age feature under one control/knob like the two mentioned above.

If anybody knows, please do share.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    PSP Wobbler ( https://www.pspaudioware.com/products/psp-wobbler )
The age function sounds very different from the one on Wunderlich. It cuts lows and brings more of a 'portable radio / analog telephone' sound.

Hello @ceo54, this might be something for you:

    NEOLD - WARBLE www.plugin-alliance.com/en/products/neold_warble.html & www.neold.com/warble

    Organic Mojo

Welcome to the ultimate vintage tape modulation & lo-fi effect: WARBLE. With ease, it makes everything you throw at it sound special, warm, and analog. Its three main effect engines can be used by themselves or in combination with each other, thus bridging the gap between ease of use and seamless versatility.

    New Old

The Modulation Block generates characteristic lush movement layers from wow as well as more irregular and wiggly sounds resulting from flutter. The wide parameter ranges and additional speed controls trigger anything from wide dimensionality to pulsating grit.

WARBLE’s Aging Section celebrates all the beautiful goodies of magnetic tape – bandwidth reduction, beautiful harmonics or noise and crinkle textures. With this powerful device, you can quickly achieve a wide variety of inspiring, nostalgic and musical landscapes.

Warble compresses and distorts more, specially the low frequencies, than Wunderlich or Wobbler (didnt try VoostEQ). There's a level boost too.

I did a quick and dirty test on an excerpt of 'Just What I Needed' by The Cars (1978). Only the age parameter (to the max) is supposed to do something, all other processing being disabled or at 0. No level correction.
No VoostEQ as I dont have it.

EDIT : I uploaded the unprocessed excerpt for comparison purpose.

The Mixland 280 Pre has the Age knob and it's excellent for parallel mixing. I really like it, it's made by Eddie from Kiive Audio.

Try the degrade module on Chow Tape. https://chowdsp.com/products.html

It's also a lot different from other tape emulations and I rather like It. I recommend you use It in NR8 mode and If you use the saturation module, use as much linear phase oversampling as your computer can manage.

Currently in beta, this plugin requires some hefty CPU to drive it.
I managed to obtain 4 instances of it with my i9 9900K ruining at 5.5 Ghz.

On my Apple Pro M2 I manged to obtain 2 instances

Both systems I'm testing it on have been with Reaper and Cubase I can't comment on other DAW's.

I know its beta but Relab have periodically said it requires lots of CPU and have a questioner seeing if you pass the minimum requirements.
In both above examples I just passed but just scraped in according to them.

Once you get past the requirements I have to say its a great sounding plugin in a neutral way but I cant see them selling many.

Links below shed some light on its specific features more details as well in the other videos they have on their YouTube site.

I always wonder what is the point of plugins like this. People started mixing in the box so they wouldn't have hardware limitations, but being able to load at best 4 instances of the same plugin (and all the others you're going to use) is WORSE than just having hardware. At least hardware won't literally bring the whole session to a halt because you have too many in your studio.

"Just use one", then better buy the hardware. "But it sounds just like the hardware", and dudes like Michael Brauer just rocking some old Waves compressor while no one ever questions if it's analog enough.

Not trying to start a fight or anything, it's just very amusing how we went full circle to something worse.

A statement such as 2 instances of a compressor plugin is all you can get from a M2 Mac, and it is still in beta testing; makes thinking about other comparisons probably not a good use of your time.

The premise of this thread is in the same ballpark. "Condition" degradation parameters being a new idea in plugins, particularly tape emulations? These parameters and ideas behind them have been around for a long time, just with different parameter names on them. U-He Satin is from 2013 and it has a "vintage" toggle switch on the front plate, nevermind the "service" parameters; and it probably is not even close to the first one. Kramer or Studer from Waves maybe? 2010. Voosteq, really?

It's a good plugin, and I think they have very good ideas at HoRNet. Anyway, sometimes this colors the sound too much for being something that should be used an all channels or almost. The thing that bothers me most is that you have a subsonic HPF and a supersonic LPF even when you turn off both LPF and HPF.

Anyway, it's a very good plugin for some uses case. Regarding analog summing, the one who nailed it most closely is Airwindows, but it's really a fuss to implement the workflow if your main DAW hasn't post-fader inserts (and I use Logic, which hasn't). The good thing is that I took that concept and built my own version of it with other plugins (but I won't prosecute, because it's a secret sauce :chilling: and I don't want to derail the thread

Some plugins automatically do something good (and bad) before you dial one knob too.
The Lindell 80 Channel plugin adds instant Neve-like unsaturated warmth before you do anything.
    As you all were...
