Acoustic treatment is only needed if there is a problem. With proper speakers, speaker placement and DSP, you can get away with a lot.

In my home studio, I literally have no acoustic bass treatment. None. Only some treatment for the mid-range and high-end. And my room and speaker system are perfectly compliant with the EBU Tech. 3276 recommendations (with the exception of the 1m minimum distance between speakers and walls, which is not an issue in my case thanks to appropriately placed porous treatment). The nominal reverberation time of my room is 0.3s (recommendation is 0.2-0.4s), and distortion is kept below the 3% <250Hz, 1% >250Hz recommendations, at reference level. And here's the spectrogram :

You can see on the spectrogram that the problematic region is actually around 300-400Hz (I can hear it, I know that I should add some acoustic treatment to deal with this, but honestly it doesn't bother me that much, so my lazy ass didn't treat this yet). But the bass sounds clean. I don't even have a subwoofer, and it goes down to an F3 of 23Hz, under 3% of THD. I achieved this thanks to :
    • Speakers that have great bass response. I use APS Klasiks 2020, they go deep, have an acoustically dampened bass port, and a PSI style linear-phase analog crossover.
    • Proper speaker placement. You know how we see more and more cardiod speakers (Mesanovic, Kii, Dutch & Dutch, Geithain...) and how they're supposed to give a better bass response in a room ? Well it works. You know how we can achieve the same thing with regular speakers ? By placing them right up against the front wall : it makes them cardiod. Even better, I placed mine in the corners. That gives a huge dynamic range boost, while also avoiding a lot of room problems.
    • Proper DSP. It took me a full day to properly tune my speakers to my room. I also tested Sonarworks, ARC and Dirac. All of these automatic room correction software were terrible against the manual correction based on REW measurements. Of course it's quite trick to do properly, but it's possible. And you only need a cheap generic measurement microphone, all of the software is free.

How Sound Works (In Rooms) - - Acoustic Geometry

How BASS Works (In Rooms) - Acoustic Geometry

This video shows what happens to bass – low-frequencies below 200 Hz – in rooms like recording studios, home theaters, and stereo rooms. A six-foot acrylic tube, a few action figures, funhouse glasses, and a tennis ball help simplify the otherwise complicated physics involved in how room dimensions interfere with the sound you hear.

Do you have your monitors on the back with the switches set to "Off"?

The full-range models of the HS series feature two tone controls that allow you to adapt the speakers to the acoustic properties and shape of the room's boundaries. ROOM CONTROL lets you reduce the overemphasized bass that inevitably occurs when the speakers are placed close to walls. HIGH TRIM lets you adjust the treble response. On the input side, the full-range speakers are equipped with jack and XLR connectors, which are suitable for balanced and unbalanced connection to all kinds of devices, from keyboards to mixers to audio interfaces. On the HS8S subwoofer, the cutoff frequency of the switchable low-pass filter (HIGH CUT, high-frequency cut) can be set between 80 and 120 Hz. The high-pass filter at the output (LOW CUT, low-frequency cut) can also be positioned between 80 and 120 Hz. PHASE can be used to invert the phase of the subwoofer output. The HS8S subwoofer is equipped with XLR connectors on the output side (L, R, and EXT SUB). Inputs are available in both jack and XLR formats.

Have a look at the Ananda Nano planar headphones for a simple way to sort out the kick and bass.
