Hello all Linux users,

I know this probably is a shot in the dark because I am trying the impossible to get "Yamaha Expanded Softsynth Plugin for MONTAGE M v3.0.0 - V.R" running under Wine in Linux Manjaro.
The Manjaro system is up-to-date (17th of July 2025). I am using the windows Reaper version under Wine so no Yabridge.

Here is what I did:
1. Install no problem.
2. Activation no problem.
3. Reaper recognizes Expanded Softsynth Plugin for MONTAGE M.vst3
4. The GUI shows up.
5. I can play 4 maybe 5 notes, then the sound stops.
6. The RT CPU is quite high, but that could not be the problem?
7. When I close the GUI, I get window No License.
8. I can close the program and open it again. And again I can play 5 notes before it gets silenced again with the No License window.
9. After firing up the plugin, I cannot turn any knob at all.
10. Internal soundcard settings. I tried several, but it makes no difference.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

I'll be booed again but most likely the problem is with VR, I would try R2R first
some problems with the license were reported
and better not to mess with two but I'm sure you already know that

I suppose that your problem is the activation. Why don’t you try R2R release? You need only to download from sister site the 16 Mbytes installer, the 7 Gbytes library is the same and read instructions. Also, read what I wrote in comments for the V.R. release about the use of the “license-engine-access.dll” file.

 

Yes I know, but thanks anyway. I created an image backup before installing VR's version so I can roll it back now.

 

Yeah, I know. But the problem is I downloaded v3.0 from R2R and that is about 170Mb. And there is no "medicine" there. Do you happen to have a link?

 

You need the R2R silk emulator and the R2R signature. R2R releases of steinberg product on ru tracker always have that included, so have a look there and search for steinberg.

They are on ru tracker in all releases, but indeed not on sister site or audionews.

Yess, found them. Thanks! So can I use the installer + library from VR 3.0 and then use these two medicines? Or do I need that 16 Mb R2R installer and that new R2R library?

 

The installer from VR for the library and R2R for the plugin. You can also uninstall the VR and use the R2R lib too. But it is a 7gb download again. For me that takes 2 minutes.

 

2 minutes? Wow, that is speed! As a free user I don't get that with Rapid Or Katfile. But Clicknupload and Filespayouts are very good for free users. And the VR version 3 had Clicknupload as possibility

 

I will roll back my VR version 3 and then install it again without VR's activator and user R2R's medicine instead and report back.

It is only a dll so yes it might under wine

 

I am going to find it out. As said, I will report back the results.

 

Okay, so here's the result.
1. Installation of VR 3.0's version went the same.
2. Activation of R2R's medicine went well! Surprise!
3. Firing up the plugin went well. But....after 5 notes played, silence again. And the License missing window.
4. I then copies an old v2.03 R2R VST3 version over the current VST3. To my surprise, it worked...well....partly. I could play now all notes without problem. But.....it was not possible to change any know. So changing presets wasn't possible either. Using an 8 Gb plugin with a huge CPU consumption for just one piano sound seems a bit of overkill.
5. I finally installed v3.00 from R2R on top of it. Result the same: I could play the preset but no change of parameters possible. So the same. However I had the idea that the CPU consumption of V3.0 was a bit better.

@ArticStorm So, surprisingly the medicine of R2R seems to work very well under Wine.
The VR plugin plus activation works only for 5 notes and then stops. Changing parameters is not possible.
The R2R plugin plus activation works for only the default preset. Changing parameters is not possible.

My conclusion is that something must be missing in Wine that causes the problem of not being able to change parameters.
If somebody could find out what kind of library Montage needs to make the parameters change, then the plugin could run under Wine as well!

Yes, I knew already by reading all the comments. Since I am using Wine it is of course even more CPU intensive. But it would have been worth it since the Montage is a very good synth!
