License activation seems to be the same procedure as FX SUITE that comes with Steinberg's audio interfaces. This looks like a huge synth, more than Omnisphere.

 

not so huge the plugin is just 60 meg and the lib needs 10gig of space

 

In this video he states that the E.S.P vst is a limited version of the Montage engine, albeit more than what Yamaha previously stated it could do even in its scaled back form. He also states that Yamaha intends to add more updates in the upcoming months and that they could theoretically sell it as a full fledged standalone plugin in the future. He does go on to say that he likes the idea of not having to travel with his Montage and just using the plugin so the possibility to use this without the hardware seems to be there. He summarizes all of this in the conclusion section of the video around 18:18

For now only for those who are Montage M users. They register the code that comes with the keyboard and have access to the software in the Steinberg download manager

My last hardware synth was Yamaha DX21 ages ago. Time passed by, there were so many new cool synths released, all those years I always dreamed that one day I would get around buying the most advanced workstation at the time and, well, be happy or some shit. Then VSTi got better and better but owning a state of the art workstation would still be the childhood dream. My last obsession was Montage M - I was thinking that owning this super sophisticated synth would be a killer, so inspiring. And then the software version got released and thank God for that now I'm cured. The whole thing is so meh compared to the modern software that I will not ever want any hardware synth anymore.

 

Ah I thought that was just me, I thought the same.

 

It does have some nice sounds in it, but it's not like suddenly "OMG here's the synth/sounds I've been missing" etc - it's just, more decent rompler-style sounds, samples, and fairly standard synth bits. But yes, someone will hopefully post the newer version at some point...

 

There's one aspect of hardware i miss that is that when I plop it on the keyboard stand and hit the power switch it's just going to work, period. If I really gigged a lot I find that worth investing in... but I don't so I don't.
