so recently I downloaded cubase download assistant and it automatically installed steinberg mediabay. After this I noticed the load time for my scanned mediabay files is instant, previously took a couple of seconds to show all files which usually threw me off. I also noticed I deleted the mediabay3.db file in AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase 14 , and it still showed the files. Does any one understand this behaviour? It seems installing steinberg mediabay manages ur files differently and faster in my case, but without it, it kinda takes abit of time.

Media bay used to be component part of Cubase but now its a program in its own right and the .db was moved.

Is there a way to use mediabay as standalone or without cubase?

 

MediaBay cannot be used outside Cubase.

 

Yeah inside Halion and Groove Agent.

 

Apologies if my pervious post lead to any confusion, when I say it a "program in its own right", its not one you can use elsewhere. Originally each Steinberg app had its own mediaBay, separate for Nuendo, Cubase, Halion, Groove Agent, etc. so now its just the one, it only has one database, saves space but still can only be called form one of these apps. Its the first thing the app launcher initiates so its usually updated by the time you need it, making you think its faster.
