It is mixed and mastered. It is ready to … be monetized. What should I do with it now to show it to the world? Should I run to copyright, license it or whatever? How about music aggregators. What could be the right plan? If any is possible.

I can cut you a deal under Maritime Law. If your song meets our requirements, we can place you! We are working with major cruise ship companies in Norway as well as the 7-11 retail network and Spotify. PM me

Hmm... So, to monetize our work, the proper plan is: first to register with PPL as a Performer and Recording Rightsholder Audio. They will issue an ISRC number then. PPL is the only ISRC issuer in the UK. PPL and ISRC are assigned to the country where we live, make and sell our music. Registration is free. Please allow two to three weeks for approval of your online application.

Does anyone have any experience with PPL?

I have taken the next step. I am a registered PRS member. This cost me a one-off payment of £100. Now I have to deal with registering my songs and tracks. Any directions from experienced members of those organisations?

If you are planning to release your work as an official artist song, then you would want to look for an online music distributor that is able to release your song in different music platforms.

Yes. This is the third step. But still we need ISRC, right?

If I ever released my own material, I'd like to do it on cassette or vinyl.

You would need MCPS in the UK then.

What I know the PPL only can issue ISRC.

Any pros and cons for Distrokid and CDBaby?

Distrokid (aka Spotify) shouldn't be on anyone's shortlist. Shady af. If you're serious about your career and trying to run a business there, do your research and see for yourself just how many people have been getting screwed over by many of these so called "distributors" you always see mentioned on these "best" lists. DIY as much as you can. Only farm out to reputable people who get paid when they make you money (incentive) - remember, they work for you, not you for them ;)

As I like sharing my experience with the others as it might be helpful. So I am updating my music “business” journey. So called “Business” because of this:
    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/jul/04/songwriters-royalties-uk-gigs-prs-for-music

Anyway, I have released my song. After registering with PPL, PRS and MCPS I decided to distribute my work through EmuBands. I am happy with them. The customer service is very responsive. They are very helpful and give detailed information I need. I needed to change my metadata and I did it without any problems.

I came across publishers Songtrust in US and Sentric in UK. Some of their services overlap with MCPS, but they also add a few extra features that make syncing easier for example.

Have you got any experience with syncing? Where to go? How to deal with them? And so on…

    How much are GEMA fees?

The amount of GEMA fees depends on the type of music use. In retail, for example, a fee of approximately €25 (net) per month is due for the playback of background music up to 200 square meters of sales area.

When do I have to pay GEMA fees?

You use music and are wondering whether you have to pay GEMA fees and how much. As a first guide for you: You only have to pay us a fee if you use music publicly. However, if you listen to the music privately, e.g., at a birthday party, no fee is due. But what is public and what is private? And what about weddings, club and company parties? We'll answer all of these questions below.

Why do I have to pay GEMA fees?

As a collecting society, we do not make any profit. We distribute our income to the authors whose rights we represent. Less our administrative costs and the funds we provide for social and cultural purposes.

What happens if I don't pay GEMA fees?

Anyone who plays music in public without paying is committing a criminal offense. Legally speaking, this is theft (from our members, the music creators). For this reason alone, we regularly inspect events and public spaces. If you play music that you haven't previously registered with us, you will be charged an additional fee. You should also expect additional costs. Neither our members nor music users who correctly pay their fees should bear the additional financial burden we incur.
