Cutest little computer in the world, just got one. Want to make it a mac mini 8,1 for my brother (his Apple mac mini is long in the tooth).

I have run emulations, virtual machines etc. New to the UEFI boot loader world though. This machine has been converted by many on the interwebs and I have the OpenCore sofware, the EFi packages for this device and Rufus.

I think I understand the process, and have some spare 256gb nvme ssd's to practice on.

I have Windows 10 (also 7) machine, Linux Mint machine, and Mac Mini to create bootable thumb drive for the purpose of building the hackintosh image and bootloader on nvme.

Am wondering if any of these platforms would be easier or faster than the other for this purpose. If you've gone down this road, any feedback would be helpful...

Funny you posted this, I snagged the same computer on eBay recently and im going to Hackintosh it when I have some down time!

I bought a "for parts" unit that ended up being heavily upgraded, and seems to work perfectly. Has an i7-7500, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD for $40.

Here's a good post to give you some details about bios settings and setup. Only common issue I've seen with macOS on this computer is that sleep doesn't function correctly.

If you're planning on making your own EFI I'd recommend using OpenCore Aux Tools, OpenCore Configurator, and potentially installing windows on the unit and using a tool to create SSDTs (Corpnewt SSDTTime). Also GibMacOs to get the macOS installer you want.

This will be my 7th or 8th Hack. Lenovo prebuilts are super easy, HPs should be fairly simple as well.

Edit: Just a warning, I've had a bunch of issues with Samsung m.2 drives so avoid using them if possible. Spent like 2 hours failing to install macOS on a Lenovo, swapped SSDs and it immediately worked.
