Its probably one of the very few things of my childhood that i remember(and forget, when it comes to the movie title).
I remember my father giving me a cassete, bought by a street-kiosk.I had to rewind this thing so many, many times cuz i really liked the style(greek-dub, i get goosebumps just by thinkin it).Probably the first and last anime-style movie i really loved.

Enough bolshet.
The movie begins in space, in a spaceship full of fkn sexy girls(on-ly gi-rls), fighting the bad ones, getting into space capsules, having some brief talk and then action again.I really can remember the music and sound ,but thats smthin i cannot show you here .

The movie had a very strange beginning, like there was a long story before.Also , a really fked up end, scenes burned with a pyrostick in my mind.I cant believe i actually threw this cassete.God help me man eyyyye *no*

These girls had a couple of crazy robots much like r2-d2 from starwars,appearing in the last 10 minutes,when all the crew comes to earth.I think thats the key for anyone to remember,the robots.

Best sci-fi sht ive ever seen, and when i did , i didnt even know how to read.

Judging by your description (and my childhood), I'd say one of the "Gall Force" OVA series designed by Kenichi Sonoda (Bubblegum Crisis, Gunsmith Cats).
First one was released in 1986, if that fits.
