Last Year, On October 9 they've released Studio One 7.0 & announced that they will release 3-4 major updates every year while introducing their subscription plans.

It's already June. 8 Months passed and So far they've only released 2 minor updates, Nothing major. Still no issues but the last 3 iterations from 7.0 to 7.2 all these versions have so many bugs.

For a Professional Software, They are running the studio one with bugs for 8 months now. Updates & Bug Fixes are slow af.

Recently Fender introduced the free Fender Studio App developed by the Team Studio One. Apparently, Fender used the Presonus Team to build it's own app

Do you guys think that presonus/fender is still trustable? or fender is killing their business slowly...

I really like Studio One, using it for 6 years as it was my first DAW but recently i'm really having trust issues with presonus. I fear fender would totally kill studio one.

What you guys think? It's tragic if something happens to studio one in the future as i am fully dependent on it and all my projects are studio one only.

Other Big DAWS in the market are quite stable i.e. Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic Pro, Cubase, etc.

Thing is fender have a history of ruining businesses.

Are you guys going to keep working in Studio One? Or you guys too are thinking to switch?

 

Let's say Presonus are put out of business tomorrow. What happens then?

 

I don't agree with half of the current Studio One business model, but we need to be realists here: what is happening with Studio One is not exclusive to it, and is just a reflection of the industry. Every DAW suffers from this in different places and scales. Right now, I think Studio One is one of the lesser evils in the industry. It's a good DAW, and my experience with it is pretty much bug-free, save one case or the other, but it doesn't amount to maybe a few hours of all the 12 years I have been using it. I agree that updates have been extremely slow, but my prediction of the current business model was spot on. For me, I can go back to Reaper at any time, so maybe you should consider planning to move elsewhere, or stick with an older version of the DAW that works best for you.

 

I don't trust Fender (like i don't trust Gibson).

Hello @blinkitspenguin, Studio One is stable; bugs are fixed with every free update. I have complete confidence in Studio One. You don't need to worry about Studio One being sold or discontinued. Just don't read so many reports; they'll only reinforce your fears.

Fender has a competitive problem; others can also build guitars and do so at cheaper prices. But Fender has patents and extensive expertise. They will have to adapt to the market or they'll disappear from the market.

as long as there is a k'd version of whatever you are using available, you will be able to get into your old projects as long as your other tech allows. If they pull the product off the market for any reason and you have access to a version where there is no online authentication method, you will be able to open old sessions. This is every DAW.

So what do you have to trust them with? If they are making users pay for updates with promised fixes that never materialize, that is possibly an issue that might waste a little money. People sometimes seem to feel like they are "investing" into something, but all that you are paying for is whatever is there at that specific minute. It shouldn't be, but that's outside of your control.

 

I don't trust S1 since their cloud thing.
I don't like how it evolves either - if I can call that evoles... outdated GUI plugins, useless low quality instruments and "fetaure", GUI becoming clubky. I still like but I don't trust for the future myself.
yamaha i think they really wanted do something in audio software,
fender I don't see them doing anything (and they don't, probably just a financial thing for them and the previous owner get rid of it and be a rich retired man)

While every daw has it's pros & cons. for now with studio one my only problem is TRUST on the Company & S1's Audio Engine. That Audio engine performs too bad in lowest latency settings, I thought it's only true for S1 Windows Users but it's also true for Mac Users.

In S1, if you want lowest latency, then these are the settings

Sample Buffer = 16 Samples
Dropout Protection = OFF

(Reason to set this to off is if you set it higher than off lets say minimum, it adds latency.)

In this settings, if you compare ableton or logic they perform smoothly in their lowest latency settings even in heavy load like multiple instances of Omnisphere. But S1 easily starts to give clicks & pops like after just 1-2 Omnisphere. On the other hand ableton & others perform well with 8-10 instances of Omnisphere in similar lowest latency settings.

I've replicated this test on my old windows laptop & my new M4 Mac Mini. It performs worse in both systems compared to other Big DAWs like Ableton, Logic Pro, Cubase, Reaper.

Idk why S1 performs like this. Have you guys compared this lowest latency setting of S1 to other DAWS?

By the way, two Studio One developers used to work at Steinberg Cubase.
I did some more comparisons, but I hadn't thought of that. I have an Audient iD14 USB interface with 256 samples!

Previously, I had a Dell XPS 15 9570 Laptop i7 8750H Intel Chip, 16 GB RAM

I replaced that with a new M4 Mac Mini Base Model with 16 GB Ram & 512 SSD.
My Audio Interface is Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen. It can go as low as 16 Samples in S1 & 32 Samples in Ableton.

I've tried all the tips & tricks that you mentioned above, nothing fixed those issues on

Have tried this? Are you able to replicate this low latency S1 setting wih ableton or logic's lowest latency settings?

I'll be repine Studio One until it dies. I've already been through the Gibson Opcode takeover the killed Studio Vision Pro back in the 90s. And it was quick & swift. Like a team of mercenaries had stormed the building grabbing certain key members with chloroform quietly in the middle of the night. Then suddenly on morning our problems we from shit to the shitter all in one night.
So Fender is hanger in there with Studio One & I seriously believe they're trying.
However as long as Apple is alive and they still produce Logic, just as I went to Logic after Opcode died with Studio Vision Pro, I'l be going back to Logic upon the death of Studio One. BUT.... Studio One is still breathing strong. So what they haven't released any major updates in the past 8 months. Companies are struggling like hell just to stay afloat.
So I say to Fender, keep chuggin' along my friend. And continue to do, that voodoo, that you do, so well!

-In what environment or recording/playback situation do you need 16 sample-buffer setting ?

Is´nt that like drivin ur car only in first gear - full throttle?

Maybe im just an amateur homerecorder , but anything that keeps me under 8 to 10 ms latency
is ok for me , and meanwhile all current modern computers and soundcards can handle that.

I come from a pre vst-era , where there was hardwaresynths , only midi and smpte timecode to reel-machines.

We are so spoiled with what we have today , everything runs so smooth if configuration for the respective hard-and software is correct.
And if some audio recording gets a tiiiiiiiiny little delayed , -as we can see , if we zoom hard into the waveforms ,- we will have all the options to correct that!. ( freeze instruments , move waveforms a.s.o )
Am I talking about microseconds ? . Probably.

So i think we are whinnig on a high level.

How many of us can not do the same things today with... -let´s say: Studio One 4.?

btw: Studio One 7.2 is out. At sister some say detect tempo is broken. It´s not.

Sadly, 7.2 or 7.1 is not out for mac on sister site.

64 samples is good for playing keyboard but if you're recording vocals 16 samples gives better roundtrip latency because i monitor through my daw using some comps & eqs when recording vocals.

Anything above 7-8 ms is quite noticeable in the headphones, the delay between you speaking & hearing it in the headphones vs hearing your voice inside your head, messes up the flow.

I found out that Roundtrip latency is the one you should monitor when recording vocals with some processing. The lower the better.

 

Then maybe take a page out of the analog console days and track through a Neve channel strip with zero latency...

I don't like assuming it's a skill issue, but the way you describe it, sounds like it's self-inflicted.

 

Nahh mahn, I don't think it's a skill issue! I've recorded many singers & rappers! Also I myself record my singing vocals every other day.

It's not that you can't sing when having the setting at 64 samples.
The main reason is I found out that the lower latency your system has, the less overall takes you'll end up with.
They all & myself included feel nervous when I drop the samples to 64 samples or above. The reason is the response from the headphones & my mouth yelling those words are somewhere delayed.

If I use a external mixer than I'll also need a analog compressor & eq. Cause my audio interface has Direct Output button which is very similar to analog workflow, I can use it to hear my voice in zero latency but recording the vocals without any effects results in a very different take compared to having a light compressor & a lil eq & ambience verb. The vibe feels different, it's like you're not part of the band.

This workflow works for me right now. It's just that Studio One starts giving few spikes way too early compared to ableton, logic, etc. Other DAWS feels robust in lowest latency settings.
