Thank you @fiction , gives me hope.
I’m still puzzled with logic, i prefer ableton, reaper or s1. Personal choice maybe. I expected too much.

Yes all OSs become bloated. 2 millions files macOS. And locked down. I really hate all the messy cloud dependencies and telemetry stacks the most, it’s evilware. It seems most people don’t care. Didn’t expected so much agressive reactions though, as it was as mentioned in the title, just a rant.

They are not system. And there are no idiomatic ways to throw things on your mac. Every developer has it's own philosophy where to put things. So yeahh. Good luck.

"portable" is a user choice on Windows. Mac Os makes it mandatory.

It is flexible. But he does know MacOS and his statement is basically true. You can absolutely install anything, anywhere you want with SIP Disabled or actual System-wide root. Installers may be built to follow predictable patterns, but as we all know most "open" installers' pre and post install scripts can be easily circumvented with simple tools such as Pacifist or Suspicious Package. Or even the Finder and text editing.

Find Any File is under ten dollars if you want to support the developer. For almost all situations, it is faster and more powerful than Mac Finder.

Anyway, all you have to do is read some threads about Windows on here, created and written by Windows users; to see why threads "about MacOS" like this from Windows users even appear. Because none of the actual Mac users have such problems to create threads about. We're not on our 14th OS re-installations like they are.

Current Mac mini M2 Pro, running latest Sequoia updated all the way from the factory OS it came with 2 years ago.. Previous Intel Mac mini i7, still running Ventura upgraded from the Catalina install that came with it out of the box. I can't even remember the last time I actually had to install a fresh MacOS. I think that may have been about a decade ago when I finally put an SSD into my 2010 Mac Pro and had no choice heh.

    *sigh*
Why can't we all just get along? The whole world has become polarized politically. You'd think musicians could foster a little peace and love and understanding.

When the options are to either post a thread like this or more " Windows Please?" comments on sister site...

one thing with mac users - and apple user in general -, they take critics personnaly.
i don't care windows, I hate apple, and unbuntu failed (they don't care desktop anymore)
the thing is, we can, and we SHOULD always criticize and not be like sheeps. especially against timcorps and all those evils.

it's not win-OS-linux war problem, it's how much we can accept to be cheated and pretend good thing when obsiouly we are cheated by evils pretending a lot but writing piece of shit spyi code closing everything and forcing their cloud for $$$ on our back ? I was highly disapointed. MacOS based on mach kernel, XNU, it's great, what they added later is a cheapstake POS

I'm still enjoying that crappy mac air depiste shitty screen and awful os (how many shitty useless spy services are running, can't even count). I hesitate to break the seal and debloat by hand (might go to far don't want to reinstall, it's too shitty no smart backup to restore - the last option if buggy AF , and then have to do the handshake activation to apple again how I hate those spyi sneaky dodgy thing pretending for "our safety'...) i discoevorerd that lame restore thing too, with no decent package manager to delete intsalled package how smart is that...) i've heard of time machine, the little I read about it taste like poo enough

about logic I set display zoom at max (yes i'm more than 50 and gen Z and other ageist racists should accept that more and more people will get old) i can't add plugins in logic. I just...can't. no scroll, no altnernative. and many other things, looks outdated, cumbersome, buggy (it crashes a few times). sorry, my feeling. ableton not perfect but looks neat in comparison, as reaper (it's limited but cheap and lightwreight) . but it's good to have choice i think, if it works for some, great. I was just super disapointed.

audio stack macos is awesome for basic usage (I don't use audio interface, I use usb mic and guitar amp usb plugs, woow lame and blabla I see those opnions coming and I don't care - USB mics and guitar plugs do 32 bits can be good enough - some hits might even have been recorded with iphone, benny blanco among others talked about that

funny I can write all those, it can be an arena, at least some freedom here.
but time to stop for me the nonsense.

Guess you are better off making your own LInux distro at this point and calling it a day, Reaper is probably the DAW you will have all your customization freedom too, change Air for Surface ARM one and win win.

Reading through this thread is hilarious, each user has their own opinion about their platform either mac or windows, I've used both and I'm currently a windows user. I'm about to give another chance to macs after the recent i-lok wave, there's hope. And every Windows 11 user knows that it's the most unpolished OS that Microsoft ever made (I always prefer nice looking UIs though). Let alone the bugs.

Even though I'm currently not a mac user, I prefer the overall look and feel of their software, Isolating apps sometimes is also a good thing since your apps doesn't rely on external dependencies making them less prone to errors that caused by accidental deletes of files etc. And it's also really easy to move the apps between drives. For folks using a base mac with 256gb of storage macOS now has support to install large apps on external drives. Use tools like sentinel it makes it much easier to de-quarantine and sign apps. When I was using the mac, I went through multiple major OS updates and none of them broke my plugins whatsoever at least in those releases (In M1 Era).

When talking about privacy, Microsoft is one of the worst that comes to my mind. Apple is no saint but at least not worse than micro-soft.

Overall, in my opinion both platforms have their ups and downs, but day to day use if I'm not gaming, a base mac mini m4 is all I need when it comes to price to performance, low noise, power consumption and overall usability of the software.

    Where do you rent Logic?
All Daws are based on more or less the same fundamentals, but has their own specific flow.
Iv tried every DAW since the dawn of time(Daws)
And for me Cockos Reaper, Ableton live works for my workflow.
I have Logic and I can use it, but it takes time to get a good flow in a new DAW.

    Good Luck

I'm on Logic for many many moons now .. I have Luna ..it's Ace but I'm struggling to adapt ..
Everyone wants me to have Protools ..I've not used it for years ..But I know for a fact ..The studios are not gonna change .

I will only use Protools to transfer the files I guess but if I had to drop 1 of the 3 them erm... ?
