    It nice to understand how and why sounds were choosen and how they were made work in the whole song.

    It's a standard task that music technology students are set. It gauges their "ear" ability and their technical skills in achieving particular production goals. For others it's just fun I guess, not my bag, but if it floats your boat, why not?
