Will this give Omnisphere a run?

 

Better late then never...
In the begining was fantastic, but it was completely abandoned by IK Multimedia.
Lets see the truth after launched.

 

Hope that interface is resizable, lots of plugins are now pretty awkward to use cause of cheap 4k screens.

 

Omnisphere is a completely different product: More on the synth side whereas this one is more of a ROMpler IMO.

 

SampleTank was so good for so long, how can I not give it a test drive? [ When it becomes available for folks like me ] I just hope it is similar enough to v1 and v2 that I can jump right in.

I don't know about everyone else but I have always been reluctant to face the learning curve each time a new software [latest and greatest] hits our world. Most of what I know about using SampleTank I learned many years ago and that makes it even more attractive to me than other samplers.

This thing has wavetables, LFOs, HQ onboard FX and a 30+ GB library. Looks and sounds very similar to Omnisphere.

 

I still use Sampletank 2....

I doubt I will abandon it for 3...

bad news IMO, their sounds have always been bland and mediocre. They are probably still using Sonic Reality for sounds too.

 

Who knows, we'll see about it... from our expectations, it should surpass even Nexus or Halion Sonic 2

SampleTank was around from the beginning ... and, unfortunately, they never really advanced from that spot. I actually love Sonik Synth (2) and Miroslav Philharmonik (and Mellotron), but I agree; a lot of those Xpansion Tanks and Capsule sets are kind of lame. It was the first VI I ever bought, part of the Total Workstation Bundle from IK in 2007 and I wound up using it and as many of the expansion libraries as I could get on a few projects. I had an even slower Intel Mac laptop at the time, and the only VIs I could really load up and use live were the IK VIs, because they ate up so little CPU and RAM and loaded in anything without any hassle. They weren't the best sounds, but you could load up sixteen patches in one instance of ST and not get any dropouts. With processing power the way it is now, though, I rarely use the IK stuff for anything. And with UVI, Halion, Kontakt, Reason and all the other sample workstations out there, I don't see SampleTank 3 doing well.

 

Used it a lot (version 1 and 2), before i had kontakt. Now Sonic Reality sounds sound lame, compared to others. Gui looks like Ultra Analog wich is total crap.

 

i never used ST but i read about a realtime timestretch algorithm. Am i able to preview loops automatically synced to the song tempo, .wav, even non acidiced ones ? (like ableton, cubase and bitwig but not logic do out of the box)?

 

Unless I'm mistaken (it's sadly been a while since I've used ST2 for anything), I'm pretty sure you can't preview any sounds -- you have to load them into one of the sixteen slots in order to hear them at all. Hopefully, they changed that in ST3. Remember, SampleTank was probably one of the first ROMpler workstations, and all they really did with 2 was make it UB, so it never got the advanced functionality of Kontakt. I don't think they ever updated the actual engine or added anything to it, so that means it's more or less the same software it was back in 2005.

So far the PreOrders have really taken off and will easily be a huge change to a lot of producers and engineers workflows with the improved sound engine, sounds, Effects, GUI and overall usability.
