Hey fam, I’m trying to organize my computer’s storage and found that I have four different bin files from the r2r release of waves ultimate that are taking up quite a bit of space. Can I delete them?

When you run into something like this, you can just move those files to a different location instead of deleting them. Then see what happens after a reboot or a few. Sometimes "installation" files will be detected as old and not needed to keep by Cleaner programs, but they actually are.

Those may be located in an "un-RAR-ed" folder along with the rest of the files contained in that R2R release.
If you ever want to install that again, you might want to save the original .RAR files/folder, etc.
I always save everything that I have installed, in case it's needed for reinstall ... in compressed format, of course.

bin files are binary files so can be anything, don't confuse it with bin as meaning of trash

these files are containers for installer. that release required 6 files for installation:
Setup Waves Ultimate v2024.01.24.exe - installer, filesize only 4 mb. this file extract all files during installation process from 5 *.bin files:
    Setup Waves Ultimate v2024.01.24-1.bin
    Setup Waves Ultimate v2024.01.24-2.bin
    Setup Waves Ultimate v2024.01.24-3.bin
    Setup Waves Ultimate v2024.01.24-4.bin
    Setup Waves Ultimate v2024.01.24-5.bin

What the others say. These files are almost sure part of the installation files. Only needed for installing.

Once the program (Waves in his case) is installed you can move them to a slow but big backup drive, for instance.

those are the setup containers, i woudl just delete them.

Ableton also does such bullshit, if you install Ableton 10 times, it will 10 times stash the installer somewhere. Its stupid. (its cab files)

i usually use wiztree to find those huge files, because you sort them extension.

bin files can also be just binaries files, think about ROM files for the DSP56300 project, or ROMs for ROland synths, or Disc images - but those come with cue files.

because of such tricks, teams put some files into *.ISO images in their releases.
